So I have this manufacturer that reaches out every year to "get me on board" with all of their customers that need my services

They want me to sign documents before they can "legally" work with me or refer customers

Typically I refuse to sign anything and it usually ends until next year but this time it escalated to 4 back and forth emails....

In the end they said I was very unprofessional and they wouldn't let their customers use me because I'm not the type of professional they want representing them...they will find someone else

Any guesses what company this was? C'mon...lets play!

here's the latest excerpt:
Good morning Scott,

So and so forwarded your email over to me for review. I am a product technician of over 38 years, contributing author to several technical industry training manuals and product engineer here at so and such. Believe me, I know what it takes to be a good service tech in this industry. Ultimately I am the one here at so and such that decides if a service tech earns the right to be listed on our service provider network. We expect excellence in service and we look at more than just experience.

Your name was taken off our service provider list, not because of financial reasons, but because of attitude and lack of professionalism displayed. So and such has always set the standard in excellence of product and customer service and that includes a proper way of doing business that benefits our customers, dealers, service providers and legal standards.

Because we are subject to international review, states that are looking for more revenue, etc. etc. we have to expect that persons that we do business with uphold the minimum requirements for doing business. We get audited by individual states for resale exemption certificates from anyone that we sell to, therefore it is required to have on file a resale exemption certificate signed (no exceptions). We require a application to be signed by anyone we do business with so that we have the legal descriptions, proper contact people to protect us and you, and a signature that protects us should a business fail to pay their bills. It does not require any more that simple information and a couple signatures.

Our sales person was incorrect in her assumption that you did not need to sign the application. So and so was correct in her assessment on the need to correct this error.

Your attitude displays an indication that you are not on the level, that your customers will not be taken care of in a professional and manner of integrity and that you have a high risk of not taking care of your responsibilities. We need something better than that for our customers. This could have been avoided by your taking substantial less time than the degrading emails and signing the two forms and being done.

I would suggest that you reconsider beings we need techs with excellence and you need business. We could have a good relationship built on trust and professionalism. As the factory expert, I would be conversing with you and would expect substantially better communications than what you have exhibited. Maybe you are having a bad week. That can be fixed. If you wish to reconsider, please get with so and so, fill out the required paperwork and sign in all areas. Then this is done. If not, please do not consider that you will be doing business with so and such.

I will bite.....Harman?

Lopi.. ? I remember a forum member posting about company that would not let them into the "secret" room because they were not a super member. Thought it was lopi.

here was response to that email
Hi so and so...we have spoken on the phone several times. The resale cert is a no brainer...just charge me sales tax...whatever. i have developed an attitude over the years and it has to do with manufacturers seeking exclusiveness with respect to market share. In the end the customer gets stuck....and i am an advocate for consumers. Unprofessional? Are you aware of the work i do with LEHEAP and other fuel assistance programs whereby i comp repair work to low income folks...speaking engagements with NFI and the NEBTEC? Do you know that i have more than 7000 customers across 6 states. You folks are nuts if you think i got to where i am as some unprofessional recluse.
I do not need you folks to send me customers...its always nice when we can have a friendly back and forth but They find me on the net anyway. Im not trying to be snarky...really.
Every year you folks reach out to me to take me on board...but im not going to jump through hoops or sign paperwork or whatever...if you need a signature...fine. but i pay cash, do not mind paying sales tax and am not sending my financial statements...Enviro, St Croix, Dansons, Englander, Lennox as well as 4 hearth supply companies all work with me directly.
Im not going to test out to work with you folks...I have more than 12,000 service calls under my belt and am conversant with 172 models...including all of yours since 2003. Every single one is a pellet or corn stove.
Im actually very professional, though maybe not so humble, but ive earned my reputation.
Are you folks aware that i inherited that entire ------------ disaster? thats about 800 of your units....most of which where installed incorrectly. I routinely have to deal with your products that are missing vital parts of the feed system or hanger that let go and wires melt, or bushings that routinely fail within a year, and hopper fires in ------------, stripped secondary gears in those over torqued auger motors or the plastic pof switches in the exhaust air path that melt,
Yes, we ought to work together...

My $0.02 worth; Really - they reach out to you then submit you to that kind of nonsense? Considering the guy who wrote the email you quoted can't even put together a single coherent sentence and obviously is not a rational being, I think you should just tell them to f' off - 'course you already pretty much did that did that in your response :) They obviously need you more than you them... What kind of bizarre game are they playing? Don't waste another minute on them.

Harman

No, not harman...they are hht. They dont use any proof of fire switches, they use a thermocouple.
I went all in and lost... Just not very happy with mine(harman) at the moment and some of the issues in the reply email led me to think harman;em . My enviro just keeps krankin year after year...

Bug report....quotes do not post in reply from android x2

When you hit reply? Nothing comes up?

You got it smoke show

Cant say I am shocked? Look at all the problems they have with the Baby? That stove is a disaster. I wouldn't want to have part in a company that produces such a sub par product.

Your better than that. We know that. Your customers know that. Cheers. Keep on keepin on Bro ;)

I re-read your original post... that guy is on a major power trip. He calls you unprofessional then asks you in the end to reconsider to sign on board. Sounds like a dumb Napoleon...

What is THEIR loss is OUR gain. Glad to have you & your expertise here with us, Scott. I have in the past & will in the future, recommend you as a source for folks needing service in your area...:)
