Well it had to happen another boring Blaze King accolade.

First fire of the year last night temps went down to 37 and damp, rainy, fired her up at 6pm,8 splits of larch with 15% moisture, stove top thermometer went to 650,and cat temp was hovering at 1000,at 8pm I dropped the t-stat to 1.5 a hair above actually. At 11:30pm house temps at 74,cracked the window near the stove about 4 inches ,at 8am house was 73,all larch was dust stove was 300,cat totally inactive,I'm calling it a 14 hour burn. As long as my t-stat aint wound backwards I'm happy. I've got 3/4 of a cord of the larch left for my shoulder season I'm liking it my cat was cherry red during a good portion of my burn.My stove was only a hair above halfway loaded, not recommended by BK,but it worked for me.

I've been burning the last couple days and it is kind a boring just loading once per day, set the t-stat and let it do it's thing. A full load of Oak and t-stat set at 1.5 is giving me 24 hour burns and keeps my house at a perfect temp.

I did a 24 hour burn yesterday too. Red alder and box was about 75% full including the kindling and firestarter in the middle since it was a cold start. Setting 1.5 seems to be the shoulder season setting. We actually started the fire at 7pm Thursday, next morning went to Portland (3 hour drive) and then returned, then fiddled around and couldn't believe that the fire was still going way after dark on Friday night.

No it's not blistering hot but you can't leave your hand on the stove top and it is easy to keep it going by adding full size wood. The 24 burn left the house too warm for me so I'm going back to my 3-4 split 12 hour burns starting them at night.

Glass is black with the most stubborn creo I've ever seen. None of the normal methods can get it off, I'll need to buy some sort of official chemical.

You know the wife thought the stove was ugly and overly large. She misses seeing fire too, but when we come in out of the cold after being gone all day she is really warming up to the flaming roid that can burn forever on a partial load.

Nightime lows for us are still just at 50F, with daytime highs in the low 60s. I walked downstairs this morning, the house was a perfect 68 having warmed itself up from an overnight 63F. Yawn, you're right it is kind of boring, but predictable. I love our heat pump as much as I love our woodstove. In a few weeks it will be waking up, but for now it continues to collect pistachio nut shells.

I know what you mean by black glass. My glass is pretty much clear in the middle but the sides get black. It does burn off some if you burn it hot for about 30 minutes or so but it goes right back to black when you turn it down.

I could care less about black glass, burn off on a high burn, also enough fire to keep one happy if you give her a little air and let her go,minor tradeoffs at best.I know of no other stove that is so miserly with wood.Good burning.

We are getting the same high temps around 70 but have frosted hard several times this last week. Almost into the 20s.All of my pumpkin leaves are dead and dropped having been frozen off. We also are now being sure to remove the hose from the yard hydrant. Definitely colder away from the coastline.

Please don't take my troubles as being hard on the stove. We are stove geeks and we all know why the BK is great, we work together to minimize and work around the weaknesses which every brand has.

I feel really odd about loading 7 or 8 splits into the stove, I know they will last a long time but it is still a large fuel load. I am particularly impressed with what the BK can do with small fuel loads. I'll load three splits on top of a fist sized pile of coals. Those three splits have burned since 7 o'cock last night (almost 15 hours) and the cat is still active. It was into the mid30s last night and the house temps in the low 70s this morning.

Why load this thing full for 24 hours when three little splits will make it 15+ hours? I think you get more heat with the large loads whether you like it or not.

I'm going to have to try some half load burns when the highs get back up into the upper 50's but today it's only in the 40's and they are calling for upper teens tonight so I'm filling her up. I can see where there's a certain point where you can waste wood filling it up and you really don't need that many BTU's.

Amen brother I know you're not being hard on em,but every stove has its weakness as you mentioned,I thought I'd miss alot of fire, but just load a few splits in crank her to 3 for a rolling blaze or 2.5 for a lazy burn, after you get your fill, load er up and go to bed. No one firewatches in their sleep.

No one firewatches in their sleep.

Are you sure about that? I have had those nights where I've gotten up two or three times to do nothing except check on the fire. I'm not waking up to whiz, I usually think I smell hot metal or feel really hot and think it is because the fire is doing something wrong.

When it gets colder I'll be able to enjoy more flame and hopefully burn that layer of crud off the glass. Right now, the house gets way too hot when I try and get enough fire to burn it off. I've even tried loading kindling up near the glass but no dice. Wet ash on a paper towel gives nothing, ammonia gives nothing, glass cleaner gives nothing, so it's either heat or buying fancy stove glass cleaner.

Random weather here in northwest Oregon. 75 during the day, and 32 at night. House is in the shade so it never gets any sun, burning here!

Love reading these blaze king threads. I plan on living here for two more years then selling. Tempting to buy a blaze king...

Here in New England I'm just still feeling like it's early fall. No frost yet this year and although it is a tad chilly in the morning I put on a heavier lined shirt and by 10:00AM the sun has warmed the house up to a mid 70s temp.

Loading either of my wood stoves would be a wate of wood energy and my energy. But you guys are reminding me of what's to come in the very near future.. October can be the real "turning" month here in New England.. with mile early afternoons but then when the sun comes down... brrrrr... it gets cold quickly.

I still hold off for the weather when I can burn around the clock and may "splurge" on some oil to warm us in the AM until it's nearer the end of the month.

Reminds me I've got yard clean up work and winter bird feeders to set up.

I don't mind wasting a little money and energy on shoulder season burns. I have no hobbies otherwise to spend money on.

I don't even consider cleaning the glass this time of year. I did once when I first got the stove and said never again! When it gets cold and you can burn it hot it'll clean up pretty well. I have to burn between 1 3/4- 2 when the cold gets here to keep the house warm and while the glass doesn't stay perfect it's way better than it is right now. I loaded a half load of pine last night around 11pm, the cat is still active with a stove top in the low 200's, T-stat is at 12 o'clock(straight up and down)

I know.. many of you guys have summer dreams of that wonderful first fire of the season. You're like me in the winter time, dreaming about that first spring day I can get out on my motorcycle and do a run through the still snow covered hills of the Monadnock Region. ...pretty sick puppies all.

Don't waste your money on cleaners,on a warm glass, not hot spray a little windex let it soak about 10 minutes, get a razor scraper and it will be clean as a whistle in less than a minute. Then wipe down with the cleaner that's all I've ever done don't worry about scratching the glass it aint happening.

Yep. I haven't found anything that will touch the black stuff except a single edge razor blade.

You sure it won't scratch? I've got blades and I can try it but I don't want a lasting reminder of the mistake like a big scratch on the glass.

razor blade- works fine. After a point tho', you'll say "screw it" and only do it when company comes over.

I use one of these. No scratches yet. And yeah, I don't really worry about it. I had to peel off a little yesterday so I could watch it when I fired it back up.Retractable_Razo_4c9a1787394ad.jpg

Blaze King sounds amazing, I don't get anywhere near that kind of time from my Quad 3100. We feed that hungry box 1 or 2 times an night, must be doing something wrong.

I got curious about this Blaze King stuff and checked out the web site where I watched the video. Did you see the size of the split that guy put in the stove ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Why do these stoves burn so long is it because of the cat as opposed to secondary air tubes, they both do exactly the same thing right? I tried to find some prices on the stoves but couldn't, what is the price of a King or Princess anyway?

Just loaded up with full sized splits on the coals left after a 23 hour burn. Loaded around a half load last night with mostly pine and a couple ash splits. It was in the 40's and windy most of the day and the house stayed in the low 70's all day, still 71 so it may get a little warm in here before I get it all turned down. Supposed to be low 30's tonight.
