Put up a tarp & get to splitting. :)
Forecast to rain thru Sunday. Since I can't get wood from the cutting area in the rain, I wanted to get a jump on splitting.
Tarped an area, moved the splitter under it & grabbed the milk crate ;)

Wood not floating away yet.

Got about 1/2 of it split:

I did construction work in Seattle. If work was called everytime it rained, nothing would ever get done.
What type of wood do have there, and looks like you have a few acres to play on?"

Don't mind working in snow or rain. It feels that much better when you're done, but the tarp job is the way to go.

Nice! Bogy I am thinking you had this well planned out; you just floated the splits down to your stacking area? Hmmmm :) I did a similar thing and put the splitter under an ez-up while busting them up because I could not just let em rest. Hah! Good work!

Thanks for enduring the rain Dave, please keep it up there.
Down here we have been having one of the nicest, driest Falls in years, if we can continue with this weather for another 3 months or so I may not even have to touch the wood in my woodshed. ;)

Birch
& I have room for several more cords.

PS: Still raining <>

Dave, that truly is die-hard for wood splitting. I simply wait it out. Hate handling wet wood. Ha! This year I never finished the stacking until in June or July. I think I got the splitting done some time in April though. I split only once per year.

EDIT: Nice view of the mountains.

Dave, I hope the wind doesn't come up... ==c

Rained hard all night long in our area too, nice idea.

I have a narrow window to get the wood in.
By the end of Oct. usually the wood cutting area road isn't drivable. (barely drivable in rain)
But I agree, handling wet wood is a PIA.
It's one of the wettest years on record here, so dealing with the rain is just an inconvenience for us "die-hards" :)

PS: I see you are getting some cooler temps for a few days.

Tarp still up this AM, still raining. Not much wind so far. Monday to have more wind, hope to be done by then.

Thanks
Saw you are having the "change of season" weather moving in. Stay dry :)

My plan for Sunday was cutting some dead standing but it's located in a area that will be to wet, looks like I'l check the trails then get the beech off the hill.

Sunday they are calling for a low of 27 with the rest of the week cool so we will push in more pine.

Just think of 3 years ago, Dave.
We've come a long way.....enjoyed the trip.
Probably the best thing to do with that Birch is to not let it sit too long, eh?

Yea
Vast improvements. Feels good eh?
Birch has to be split or it starts to get punky, I could wait for spring,
but since it's a muddy mess to get more, I decided to get it split now & let it "freeze dry" some thru winter.

Thanks for enduring the rain Dave, please keep it up there.

Your weather has been perfect. The PNW is the place to be this year.
But I suspect it may change.
If the jet stream stays where it is , you'll have lots of dry wood for next winter ;)

That temp will make it easier to move around, no mud or soft spots.

I'm gearing up to head to the "milk crate", maybe get it all split up by dark :)

Dave, it was really cold yesterday. In the 30's again this morning but no wind so it really felt great out there. I'll be heading back to the woods soon for some hunting.
