Beautiful British Columbia
Got our last load of wood today, had enough to finish filling the woodshed and about a full cord of rounds left over that will be used for some splitting exercise as the days get colder.
All the wood we get is nice and dry, so seasoning time is unnecessary and we don't bother stockpiling much more than what we'll need for the winter.
Anyway, it feels good knowing we have 126,600,000 BTUs in the bank for heating the house and shop. ==c

Your weather has been good for wood processing.
Hope no one got "sun-burned" :)
Bet your wood is clean & dry going into the shed.

Nice "Bank" . How many cords does it hold?
Of course a picture is coming soon, eh?
Pics of your wood shed is always a treat to look at ;)

You have mostly spruce in your area ?

Sounds more like 126,599,983 btus to me but who's counting.

A bank like that pays real dividends.

if you heated with Propane: 90,000 BTU per gallon at an estimated $2.50 gal...
127,000,000 / 90,000 = 1411.1 gal x $2.50 = $3527.75

If you use oil to heat... #2 heating oil is 115,000 BTU per gallon at an estimated $4.50
127,000,000/115,000 = 1104 gal x $4.50 = $4968.00

I agree with Cygnus, a bank like that REALLY pays dividends, and no oil...

Premium wood pellets 13.6 million Btu/ton $200/ton
Propane 71,000 Btu/gal $1.10/gal
Fuel oil #2 115,000 Btu/gal $1.72/gal
Fuel oil #6 124,000 Btu/gal $1.86/gal

Bituminous coal 26 million Btu/ton $390/ton
Shelled corn @15% MC 314,000 Btu/bushel $4.70/bush

Interesting! Maybe I should do some figuring just for the heck of it.

Hope no one got "sun-burned" :) No sunburn, but I had to take off my sweater and worked in my T-shirt all day.

Nice "Bank" . How many cords does it hold? The shed hold about 5 cord, it was designed to hold 6 cord, but I ended up sacrificing one stall for access to the basement.
Of course a picture is coming soon, eh?, No pictures, I prefer video.
Pics of your wood shed is always a treat to look at ;) Thanks

You have mostly spruce in your area ? We have a lot of spruce, but I avoid it. Spruce is hard to split, has less BTUs per cord, and never as dry as Lodgepole pine.

Tom thanks for working out that BTU math, makes me appreciate my wood even more. ==c

Dennis, let us know what it works out to when you figure it out.

Here's my bank

That's the wood shed (Bank) I remember.
The "gold standard" of wood sheds ;)

Next time some one wonders if "pine" is OK t burn, we need to refer them to you ;)
Some good sized lodge pole pine rounds.
As I recall, you cut the dead stuff & it's almost ready to burn the day it's CSS.

I agree on the spruce being hard to split. Lodge pole splits easy & is a little higher BTU content too.

Carbon, every time I see your wood shed I am amazed! Very nice. Some day I might figure it out how much we have.

Looks more like Fort Knox to me. Very nice carbon.

Nice.

Dennis will need a special calculator that can handle 30 digits.. I suppose he can always use exponents:)

That is totally gorgeous. But you already knew that.

firecracker, are you the one with the cool trap door to the underground fort?
If so, you will have to post a link to that video for everyone to see. Way cool!

no...that's carbon liberators i think. i have no wood shed. yet :)

you gotta subtract the grocery bill for that splitter! Heesa gonna be a big boy....

Can't get in any trouble like that. Nice!

Actually it's twice as expensive as you might imagine. I have two automatic splitters (and stackers) to feed.
;)

I like it...you run the camera, they do all the work. A wood plantation model
