That is something in the Red Oak group. Probably Northern Red Oak is the red oak group member most likely to occur where you live, and the leaf looks OK for Northern Red Oak.

It sounds like you have a good days work ahead of you, five cords is a nice haul for one day. The Oak will be nice once it is seasoned, I don't think the wood will add up to a NY face cord but I always wanted some Oak.

All I can say is I'm glad I grabbed the Oak, nice wood. I also grabbed some soft maple from the front that was down (some good & some rotten which will go to the wood dump). Denise ask if I would take the rotten stuff so I said yes.

The first three rows on the trailer are all Oak, most of the fourth row is Oak with the soft maple making up the rest.

zap, that is terrific!

looks like most of it was already cut up somewhat for you..........it was heavy hey
Yes, it is cut to 14.75. Since I mark everything the cutting took about one hour, it was loading that took a while. I used the 391 on most of the rounds, the rotten maple and a few rounds of Oak had the 660 in them.

Welcome to the world of scrounging zap! Its nice because you are helping someone else, and can put the wood to good use. 2 truckloads of ash today, big oak in 2 weeks. Be well

I unloaded the trailer this morning so I could split everything, looks like we have two types of Oak in this scrounge, one is red but the other I'm not sure.

Pic 6181 is the picture of the two types of Oak.100_6181.JPG

white and red. Sounds like a good wine choice. What saw you use?

I used the 390 on most of the Oak, the 660 was used on a few of the Oak limbs then out front on the big rotten maple, the 310 was in the back of the truck just in case.

Looks like a good day zap. You got more split than I did, but I had 1/2 the rounds. A bit too warm for my liking today. Hit 70! Be well

Rain up this way WellSeasoned, hopefully this Oak will be stacked by the end of next weekend. This coming weekend I would like to cut some Ironwood to stack with the Oak.

My plans for this weekend are for a few loads ( 4 wOOd be nice) of Ironwood so I can stack it with the Oak. We heat from the basement so I don't think it will run us out of the house but the basement yes!

I went looking for more damaged trees yesterday, found some nice Cherry and Maple that I'll add to the stacks, I throw some pics up tonight.

Zap, I just recently have taken time to really look at my woods closely. I thought I knew my woods pretty good. This experience has been enjoyable. It's amazing what one can find.
