It would be very nice if the moderator could set up a permanent thread in the above "sticky" area for rating, comments, and reviews of pellets. Perhaps a graph with price, heat, ash, fines, clean burn with all the pellets listed and we could vote on them.

Yes I think you are on to something.....maybe just a pellet tab with all brands listed....then people can click onon the appriopriate brand andyour write their opinions....nothing even that official with ash and heat...just a place to click on a brand your interested about and hear some opinions.....you can do the same with a search but that would be easier to navigate...especially for thise that are not regulars.

I like this too. An Idea for the lead off page is a poll where we can like/dislike each brand. So we don't need to scroll through all the posts and tally it ourselves.
I am a nerd so some science is good. Don't need to get too fancy. But if some feel they can, it should be allowed. Others can just say good heat and so on. I also don't mind the lab stuff. If you find a test report from a lab, I'd say attach it. Cool beans.

hey i'm a fast learning newbie , but was very surprised that the premier pellet stove forum didn't have a dedicated pellet review section . using search brings you every post/thread where a particular pellet was even mentioned . a lot to sift through . and while i appreciate JT's and woodpelletreviews.com reviews , i'd like to see more hands on real world reviews even if they are less scientific .
i've been buying bunches of different brands to try and finding wildly different ranges of results . grrr just now starting to take temp measurements .
personally i'd like to read others impressions . after all this is a forum of pellet users . lets hear from them

Did I miss something? Didn't JT (I think that's the members name) do this? If I remember correctly he would burn a few bags of just about any pellet he could get his hands on, then post his findings. After he would clean his stove and start over. It was a HUGE thread too and I think caused some controversy but I could be wrong on that, my memory is t serving me to well on this topic.

Well, OK, you say "All the brands of pellets". Doesn't that list change from year to year? I'm not a pellet burner, so I'm looking to you folks to educate me here. If you can devise a starting post with ground rules and set up a poll on it, and you all get it massaged around to something you like, I'll be happy to make it a "sticky". Somebody keep me informed by private convo, or whatever we call them these days. Rick

Sounds like we are about 50/50 here on this. Thanks Mr. Mod for even considering it. Hopefully one of us will want to set something up. I expect it to have some issues due to the varying stoves and our overall individual "subjective" opinions. Having said that, I would participate.

I would just add new brands to the list as they appear in the market place.
And most of the reviews would just be user experience and very subjective but that is still useful...especially for new burners that have no idea....and if people want to take it a step further like JT even better....attach private testing results from labs better still.

Definitely subjective but there could be an area where the stove info is listed as well. It would also help in organizing manufacturers products. For example, NEWP is also sold as "____", "____" and "____". I've read it a million times and still can't remember.
I think a lot of peeps have smart phones now and a sticky like this could be very helpful in a piggish moment when you're in a store and there's a ton of cheap pellets in front of you. Logic tells you to try a few bags first but the horned swine on your shoulder is saying "buy pellets!". It could save a lot of time and gas $.
This may be pushing it, but perhaps a similar sticky could be made for stoves. It would clear up the forum of generalized is this stove any good?" threads leaving it open for specific questions/issues.
I think a key point would be to keep the comments in the proposed sticky thread somewhat short and to the point to make it more user friendly.

I envision a whole section with a thread for each pellet brand (And those are the only brands). Each pellet with 10-40 pages of text, and more added year to year. It brings a tear to my eye...

A stove review section already exists https://www.hearth.com/talk/ratings.php
Although instead of a separate entry for every single review, I'd like to see a separate entry for each stove and all the reviews for it on that same page.
Maybe a similar system could be implemented for pellets? Although, then we might be stepping on woodpelletreviews.com's toes, which might be an issue.
