Granted, I've not burned that much; but this is my first wood stove and I wanted to see how the stove is burning. Y'all know, just to gauge things. I got essentially nothing (less than1 tablespoon) out of my chimney!!!

I'm burning 2+ year old maple and ash now. My 13NC has 5ft. of doublewall stove pipe with offset back to back 45's out of the stove to the ceiling support, connected to 11ft. of class A chimney. I'm happy.

So how long did you burn to get this tablespoon full?

Yep, how much wood went though so far?

Maybe 1/3-1/2 face. I think I read here that new burners should sweep monthly to see how things are going. That's what I did. Not been burning 24/7 by any means...............just when needed to warm the house. So lots of cold starts.

That tablespoon of soot was the dry stuff and I overestimated the amount.

Never hurts to check. If you have a high power light, and can get a visual on that, no need to sweep for that little bit next time.
