Yeah...it's a 99 so the replacement value really isn't there anyways. The INS Co would most likely total it before they fixed it. I should of added anything less than 10years old.

Insurance companys and kelly blue book have a lot in common. Oh, and if its totaled do not think (Even under 100 miles) That you going to get anywhere near re-placement. ;)

Here in WA red and I must carry liability insurance which would pay for the telephone pole or the "other guy" in the wreck but not for the truck you wrapped around it. I still carry full coverage on my 2000 f350 but I am starting to consider dropping down to liability only.

I still carry full on my 02 Nissan Frontier even though it has been paid off for quite awhile, like you I am considering going liability only like I have on my other 2 vehicles, I also carry uninsured motorist coverage incase the a-hole who hits me does not have insurance, oh thats right everybody in Wa must carry at least liability , yeah right

Yes, liability plus uninsured motorist protection. I agree, insure the big things like your home, and also the crippling injury that might happen through no fault of your own but the yahoo is uninsured.

I bought this truck when I was 32. It was, and remains, the only vehicle on which I've carried a note. My car. . . after 13 years and 265,000+ miles will soon need a replacement. Sadface.

Yep, bought my F350 new when I was 32. Now, it is 9 years old next month. Was making $750 payments on it, but then again I financed almost all of it since it was zero percent. After two years of making the payments, we just paid it and my wife's car off. I was just sick and tired of making payments. Bought my wife a new car 2 years ago and took the cash back instead of zero percent because I knew we would pay the car off and come out ahead. Paid it off in 18 months. I HATE having to make payments on vehicles.

I am of the view that the only debt that is alright to have is on a personal residence or on something that actually makes more money than the debt costs in interest. Looking forward to paying off the house some day.

My 1998 Taurus has 230,000 miles on it. About to finish replacing the brake lines today. That 13 year old car of yours is just broken in. Plenty of life left in it.

FYI - nice to be around savers and frugal people. My motto "If you cannot pay your credit card bill in full every month when it comes, then there better be nothing but necessities on it".

Small piece of advice. I bought my truck new in '03. It was paid off before it was 3yrs old. At 5 years old I had the misfortune of falling asleep on my way home from work. Even though the truck was paid for I kept full coverage on it.

Vehicle Damage: $12,750
Telephone Pole Replacement: $13,200

My total out of pocket expense....$500. I'll tell you this. People used to think I was crazy for keeping full coverage, I will NEVER go without it after that morning. It's only a couple bucks a day but let me tell you, if you need it...it's a whole lot better if it's there than if it's not.

Yeah, if I was falling asleep at the wheel, collision and comprehensive coverage would be the least of my worries. I think I would be raising my liability limits way up there. If you had hit a person instead of a telephone pole, what do you think the damage amount would have been? Probably $500,000 or more depending on who you killed. Interested in hearing what your liability limits are. Me, I am at $1,000,000, have not had a citation in 13 years (knock on wood), and have not wrecked a car in quite a while.

Yeah, I prefer to self insure for vehicle repairs that are my or my wife's fault. Collision and comprehensive were running us around $500 a year for the 4 vehicles, so we got rid of it. Have saved about $3,500 in that time. only repairs needed were a broken mirror on my wife's car last month when she hit my truck trying to get around it in the driveway and a neighbor's mailbox I backed into with the truck this summer while looking for my dog. The little dings on my truck are hardly noticeable. Her mirror cost us $40 and I replaced it myself.

My advice, if you are feeling drowzy while driving, pull over and take a nap. You might save somebody's life, including your own. Learned my lesson at age 22 while working full time and studying for the CPA exam. Fell asleep at the wheel one morning while going to work. Woke up with two wheels up on the jersey barriers. The guy that had been tailgating me was about 150 yards back after that. That taught me to pull over and take a nap when tired.

: ) Hell Yes!!! Congrat's Brother!

Without going into too much detail. I was in the middle of a custody battle for my son...working too many hours a week and not sleeping because of the stress of the court case. Trust me, I learned from this experience and it won't happen again...but thanks for the lecture "dad" and making it sound like this is something I do all the time. And FYI, that is the only accident I've had in the last 18 years of driving.

As for liability limits...mine are up there! I used to do just the minimum because I had nothing they could take from me. Since becoming a home owner I upped everything to protect myself and my family. Do you want to know my shoe size too?

Yup that's where "Gap" insurance comes in handy. Friend had a 2 month old Ranger with Gap ins. INS was only going to give him 80% of what he paid. Gap picked up the rest so he got another just like the one he lost.

How about a picture of this paid off beast?

Lol, you don't know Bigg_Redd very well. I'd say the odds of a pic showing up are pretty slim!

I think any of us on the Forum has a bigger chance of winning LOTTO instead of seeing pics.

Yeah, that is not how gap insurance works. It does not give you the difference between what you paid and what the vehicle is worth at the time of the accident. It covers the difference between what you owe to the lender on the vehicle loan and what the vehicle is worth when it gets totaled. So, if you put a decent down payment down when you purchase the vehicle, then gap insurance is usually not needed. Not a lecture, just some advice before somebody gets some insurance that they do not need. I see a lot of stuff along these lines since I do some personal injury work in my legal practice, and a lot of people have coverage they do not need and lack coverage that they should have. I have also seen people hurt or killed as a result of careless driving. I come to chat boards so I can learn from others mistakes so I do not have to suffer through them myself, and I try to impart my life learned lessons to others so they do not have to suffer through them. However, some of us just have to learn them on our own. I learned a long time ago, that my dad was right about a lot of things when I was growing up.

On another note, congrats to the OP for paying off the truck. Paying anything off is a great feeling, especially for me. I just hate having debt.

. . . $15,000, and a $3500 injector pump, my truck (1999 Dodge 3500 CTD 4x4) is finally paid off.

That is all.

Nice work!! If I may suggest one thing....Those VP44 injection pumps are finicky too much or not enough pressure to them and there toast! For a small cost install a fuel pressure gauge and change the filter often and she will go to 1000000 One bad batch of fuel and a filter is plugged then the injection pump can soon follow! I am a cummins diesel junkie LOL ==c

I had a fuel pressure light installed. I change the fuel filter every summer whether she needs it or not.

Congrats. If you lived in the Northeast it would be just about rusted out by now.
