Where did you buy it from?

How I love this tool. Instant read-outs on any surface you point the thing at, even aquarium water. Way more useful than a stove-top thermometer. Just my .02

I second this post.

I've had one and find it very useful. In an old house it's great for locating ceiling joist and wall areas that aren't well insulated too.

Still nice to have the stove top one for quick reference though and no batteries needed. I need to replace the battery in mine but can't remember how to open it. Oh well something to fiddle with later tonight.

Absolutely necessary.

No self respecting cook should be without one.Cooked chicken on the grill and checked the progress. 195-205 and ready to eat.I use mine more on cooking than what I bought it for. Ken

Which type of thermometer is used to check the chicken temp. I usually test the meat with my finger, at least for steak. Once the steak feels like my palm, I know it's time to take off the grill. It will be pink in the middle and cooked on the outside.

I use the instant read for meat internal temp, however, I too find my IR thermometer indispensable around the stove, when cooking, and much more.

I have a cast iron skillet, affectionately called "panzilla" which covers all 4 burners on my range top. With 4 gas burners going on a single skillet like that, even after lots of practice there's occasionally surprises. With the IR, there is no such thing as a burnt/blonde pancake!

I use mine to check trailer hubs, brake rotors after coming down long hills, engine component temps, etc. Truly a very valuable tool to own.
