I forgot to say that the leaf has a toothed edge

Elm.........fairly sure that is an elm leaf.

It is hard to say from the pictures, but I'd scrounge any tree that is easy to reach.

Don't know if you have Chestnut Oaks where you live- This is a chestnut Oak and a leaf here in Virgina

I don't really think yours is the same but looks close - hard to tell with the picture of bark so close

its burnable....and free....it doesn't matter "just do it".....

I can't see the leaves or terminal bud well enough to id. The terminal bud will be at an angle. The leaf will also be rough feeling when you rub it.
