I had to drop off my car for service yesterday. The shop is close enough that I can drop it and walk home in a few minutes. I took the little dirt road that I have been harvesting cords of fire wood from for the last few years. On one side if the road is the back of a large apartment complex. When I got around the corner, I came across the maintenance crew clearing a bunch of downed Black Locust trees from the woods and PUTTING IT IN A DUMPSTER!

I told them that I could be back in a few minutes with my truck to help them save dumpster space. The man driving the skid steer said that would be fine.
I came back with the old flatbed and they started loading me with the skid steer.

I packed as much on the truck as I thought it could carry the 1/2 mile home.

Gotta love being loaded by a crew with a machine!
I gave the boss two $20's and told the crew to use it for lunch. The boss gave back one of them and said they'd have coffee on me.
This is the first time I really wished that the old truck had a hoist. Unloading these logs was tough, even with gravity on my side.
I unloaded and went back for another load.

All together, I think it will stack out to at least 2 cords, or 1/2 of what I need to scrounge to replace what I burn this year. I'll either burn this 14-15 or 15-16.

There is still more, but I'll be at work today, Saturday, and Sunday. Maybe I can get more on Monday if they are still there...

On a side note. This area was under the Hudson River during the storm.

good gravy what a score!

nice to have the sturdy truck too to take advatage of the perfect timing. good crew helping you out and locust to boot!

Holy cow!!! Talk about being at the right place, at the right time, with access to the right gear. Maybe you should get a lottery ticket tonight :)

That is just an AWESOME score - good for you!

That's awesome. I'm jealous :)

No point in the lottery ticket now. I just had a year's worth of good luck.

thats great...so nice to know the truck is just a few minutes away at home and ready to go when those opportunities come up...i alway keep one of the trucks on stand by just in case a situation like that arises

Truck's not on stand by now. I ran out of steam before I unloaded the last haul. There is wood everywhere around me, but this was the only wood that would be loaded by machine for me. I allredy have the rest that I need lined up, just have to make time and space to go get it.

This score was much cleaner than your last, the last one looked like a mudfest.

Awesome score, I am jealous. Did I ever mention on here how much I love that black locust? ;)

You're a good man for spotting some jingle to the guys, that shows the kind of guy you are. And I am sure they appreciated AND will remember you. Great job documenting the scrounge with pictures, too.

Did I mention how jealous I am here??:p;)

Lucky you!! I come in after the tree crews and rarely am I in a position to grab more than a small branch section or something, I see so much prime, old, large diameter hardwoods growing near or into power lines and taking them down in winds. I wish I could tow around my neighbors 8x14 trailer to all the job sites, or a large dump or stake body truck!!

SCORE!

Great score, they don't get any better than that.

I thought I had a line on some BL that would be loaded for me Thursday on the way home from work. Ran home and grabbed the truck/trailer when I returned the crew was all loaded up and on their way out of town. I had a dinner date with the family so I had to pass all together. I may run by the house tomorrow and see if the homeowner still wants it gone if it's still available.

Awesome score -clean, straight stuff, too.

Just Awsome...great score!
