I currently have a old pellet pro 2 and am looking to upgrade. kind of want to stay under $2500 looking for at least 40k btu. I need something simple to since I travel and my wife runs it. Was looking at heatilator eco-choice but am being told quads system will give me problems.

Thats an opinion, everyone is entitled to their own.

You might be better off with a box store unit with your budget. Unless you rely on dealer support.

Hello

I had a Pelpro Bay View that was really nice and with the new control board it works great on a T-Stat. Right now I have a quad SantaFe heating my work shop on a T-Stat. The Jamb proof auger is pretty good and no problems so far. I really like the Hudson River Kinderhook for the price you want to spend. It has a large hopper and a large ash pan and works great on a T-Stat. With that stove you could go for a few days and your wife would not have to touch it!

Harman P38. Low $2k range. Simple and cranks out the heat.

I have a Quadrafire CB1200 and highly recommend it. Listed btu is +45k, very easy to run and the price is right around your limit. Have had no problems (except for a replacement snap disk). The wife has no problems running it. I clean it once a week wether it needs it or not.
Also check the Quadrafire website. They usually run an on-line coupon ( I think right now it is $100.00 off).

I had a CB1200 FS made in 2,000. Great stove! Built like a tank! All it had was a bad snap disk. I did not want to spend $19 for the OEM mini snap disk so I got the standard 3/4" White Rodgers for $5.50 and a $2.00 mounting bracket and mounted it right beside the OEM welded bracket! LOL Now if it goes again it can be replaced with the OEM or the after market one cheap!

I c I can get a classic bay 1200 for $2600 out the door
Do the wife a big favor and get her the CB1200. It's super easy to use and one of the most efficient stoves you can find. The little extra will come back to you in pellets saved.

Classic Bay is Super Efficient. Love mine, more and more Every year :)

No problems out of mine in over 4 seasons. Replaced the ignitor 2 years ago and it didnt need it. Its on the shelf as a replacementpart.

Harman makes a Quality stove (HHT/Scott, they really bought Pel-Pro? Why?) As do other manufacturers. Heatilator problems are mainly operator related error. Feed gate to low, dirty stove, High EVL, Air leaks, etc.. They make a solid stove for the price.

The Englander 25-EP is a Solid heater. Refurb from AMFM is a good deal (imacmans link above).

.....worried about width getting into basement...

Is this a Finished basement? How much actual time will be spent downstairs? How much of the house do you plan on heating? How large is the whole house? Insulated well? Etc?

Heating an entire house from the basement can prove to be Very Difficult. I have one of the larger wood stoves made (firebox size) in my basement. Its in an 800 sq ft area that is uninsulated. I can get it 95° down there. But getting that heat up is a PITA.

It is an unisulated basement house is 1500sqft. The pp2 I have now is rated at 55k btu and I don't turn it over half in middle of winter and can make my first floor well over 75 degrees. From reviews I read looks like with cb1200 you either get a flawless stove or a lemon. Is there any draft adjustment for the cb1200. Will fire pot be fine for a week without maintence. I burn cheat river hardwood heat and hardwood heat from tsc.

Duh... You have a stove already :(

I've never burned Cheat River pellets, but the Quad has an Ash Dump rod (bottom of pot opens) to clean any clinker/ash build up

I have only pulled my dump once this entire season (10 bags). The Quad does not have a damper, and it does have a lot of air coming through the pot. But this is what helps to keep the pot so clean. Copious amounts of air acts as a self cleaner and also creates a very hot and clean burn/fire.. No smoke or Soot gonna come out of a Quad.

Its only 3 heat settings and On/Off. Its about as archaic as it gets, but sometimes its best to K.I.S.S. I wish it had High/Low feature. That would be the one thing that would make the "perfect" in my eyes. But other than that, the heat it throws (good heat exchange system/exhaust path) is amazing. Super simple to clean. Easy to access parts (convection blower on a corner install can be tricky :)) and a good sized hopper (80 lbs) make it an all around good stove. Its only pitfall is On/Off only. But in the dead of Winter, just run it 24/7 and your good to go. (Or let it cycle :))

Not real impressed with outside air intake with classic bay but could deal with it. Will the cb1200 run off a regular generator if power goes out?

I I looked at heatilators and don't like how ash pan doesn't have a latch or seal on it

They dont require a seal. Nor do most Quads. The Classic Bay needs a seal because the Ash pan and Firebox are all open. The burn pot sits in a receptacle that has air drawn in the back. The burn pot is not visible from the ash pan area. If you open the ash pan on the Classic Bay it gets a lazy flame.

The Heatilators (and Santa Fe/Castille) dont have an open firebox to the ash pan. The only ash that goes into the pan, is from the burn pot clean-out. If you open the ash pan on these models while running? Nothing happens
The intake air comes into this area. Burn pot and ignitor are visible here.

Hope that clears up why they dont have/need one.
