This morning, I woke up to my wife saying "It is a little chilly in the house, can you start a fire in the furnace." I went to look at the thermostat, and it was reading 70. When we lived in a townhouse we kept the thermostat at 68 when heating with natural gas and again at 68 here when heating with oil. Now, when heating with wood we keep the thermostat set at 74 and 70 seems cold. I am still amazed at how well this furnace is heating the house and have no doubt that it will be able to heat the house easily in the dead of winter.

Something about cheap heat maes you want to stay warmer. :)

We are at the same thing here. When heating with oil we had the thernostat set to come on at 630 so it wouldn't be so cold when we came down stairs.
68* was fine.
Now my wife is asking the night before You're going to get up and make sure it is warm "FOR THE KIDS" wink wink
Warm now means 74*

Then she comes down stairs and says I miss you laying in bed with me in the morning.
I said "I can lay in bed or put wood in the boiler?"
She replies "I'm over it, get to the boiler"

I'm loving this storage thing so far - although it hasn't gotten real cold out yet. With my old boiler I was staying up late getting all the wood I could in it to get through the night, then up early in the morning to get the fire going again. Last night I fed the boiler on my way to bed at 10, this morning when I got up at 7 my tanks were still at 180 and the kitchen was heating via programmable stat. I didn't bother with another fire and likely won't burn again until after supper.

As maple1 says storage changes everything you know about heating with a wood boiler. The convenience factor is unbelievable. Put in some storage, use your thermostat and there is no rush to get up in the morning. You will be laying in bed again with your wife, everyone will be happy.

Don't get me wrong, I love getting up early in the morning. This thing is my excuse to roll out of bed and start my day at 6am. Those hours spent in bed aren't productive;)

Yeah, storage isn't an option with this furnace. It isn't a boiler. It uses a heat exchanger to heat the air. Supposedly, with a full load of wood it can go 12 hours without having to be filled again. However, a full load of wood would have this house in the mid 80's right now. As it is, I usually go to bed around 2:00 and get up around 8:00, so I should be able to get up with a fire still in the furnace. Going to learn a lot with this furnace over this winter.

It is a nice "problem" to have fabsroman. ;lol Especially when you aren't paying the oil man while having the problem! Keep em warm.
