My ash is dark too! Hmmm, I see what you mean. Doesn't sound right! ;em

I try to keep my mag setting on the high side and the feed rate as low as I can(keeps tha ash as light as possible). Yet keeping the flame as consistent as I can. I like the trade off though, So darker ash is the least of my worries. While others are poking and prodin there burnpots. I'm sitting there drink brews and watchin the pretty flames. My once a week cleaning is all thats needed and I'll scratch my a** for the rest of the week!

I should not have flashed my ash. I'm a little over exposed:)

LOL.....:p

So for clarification purposes what makes good ash vs. bad ash?

my ash is alot darker than all the pics posted. burning Easyblaze currently and is far from light in color. very dark grey

Softwoods can burn blackish if you don't adjust the air/damper or reduce the feed trim. Try tweakin it some to get it close to greyish as you can.

For me its the amount. Too much is not good in the ash department...

Don't tell the mrs. But I like lil ashes too! Shhhhh! ;em

Just picked up a few bags of Powerhouse pellets. Judging by the first bag, I'll be getting plenty of ash this week

Now that the entire 50 shades of grey ash has been beaten to death, what about the weight? How much does your ash weigh?

So if you got a corn stove does that mean you have corn ash?

this thread is soooo politically incorrect :)

I been filling a hole in my side yard with ash for 2 years so does that mean I got a big ash hole?

These ash pics are a blend of about six different brands. I like all different kinds of ash...... 2012-11-08_09-14-25_270.jpg 2012-11-08_09-11-47_597.jpg

I like a nice hot ash, but not a dry one, then again that is just my preference.

There is a Plate in front of my pot (decorative Sunburst) so that why the ash level in front of pot looks funny.

I am a few behind you. About a dozen here. The Presto's burn good and Hot, but are an ashy pellet!

My ashpan is actually full now (sides are not visible because of ash height). But the center of the pan has lots of room). I am trying not to touch it for as long as possible. The ash dump is pulled, well, almost never. I did do it last week. I pulled a clinker from the bottom yesterday. But i want to see what it will take. I went 25 bags between cleanings last year.

Here are some updated pics. Ash is building up pretty high. Im thinking about leaving the Sunburst out, so the front ash wont try and roll down. To give a little more room before cleaning ;)

What are your bottom 3 buttons set at? LBA/LFF/AOT?

Sounds like to much fuel amd not enough air? Or DSS (dirty stove syndrome). ;)
