American Hophornbeam/Ironwood

We started the morning at our Fish and Game for breakfast then a small ride, once back at home I split the bigger Ironwood then stacked, about 4.5 loads.

I still have some Ironwood on the ground that I'll use to top off the stack, this should keep us warm in the colder months.

In the one pic I removed the stump which makes another trail, still need to drop it down more but won't do it with a good chain.

Into cutting a chit load of Ironwood here now. Throws some decent BTU's when seasoned. Love those 10" rounds.

I've given more away (neighbor likes it) we burned some but not much so we're loking forward to this. This year we have some three year old beech ready for the colder months along with the sugar maple.

We should be done burning this white pine on or after Nov. 15, cherry up next.

Ever try cutting some deep groves in the stump with the nose of the saw & dumping in some "stump rot" stuff ?
Might save some wear & tear on the bar & chain.

Also read if you put some high nitrogen fertilizer in the holes it speeds is up by feeding the bacteria.

After taking a look at the pics I'm grabbing the Cherry tomorrow, the (Sugar?) Maple on Monday. Not much room left for stacking around the house but that will change next week.

I've been wondering about the best way to get rid of stumps. I've got a couple I'd like to get rid of.
