M55, No heat out of heat tubes.....?

Stove goes on by the t-stat at 5:15, I come downstairs at 5:55 and notice that I have a real nice flame, but that its real cold in the house (63 degrees and not warming up) I go over to the stove and I notice that there is no heat coming out of the tubes...nothing! So I go over to the t-stat and turn it off, then I go to the stove to turn it off...to go into the auto shutdown and It is burning hot! The top is super hot like the old days with the old style convection blower, when it would overheat...right before the high heat sensor would trip. This time no flashing light just super hot top! I hit the power button to put the stove into the auto shutdown...cooling cycle and now..............the convection fan starts blowing out mega hot heat! So what is up??? I know my convection blower works just fine in the shut down mode because now the heat is pouring out! But in the normal mode, no heat is coming out????? Any idea? Thanks, Bill

Sounds like the the convection blower isn't being told to turn on. On some stoves that is the function of the POF snap disc, on others a t/c and on others a snap disc that is separate from the POF.

What does your manual say about your stove?

do u have the upgraded blower my old stove would overheat and the blower would thermally shut down once it cooled enough it would restart i dont know if these blowers have thermal protection but sounds like the same problem i had

Yeah, I have the new blower, which up to now has been flawless. Except for this morning, the stove top just barely gets warm, even after many hours.Right before I hit the power off switch on the stove, I can verify that I could feel no heat being pushed out of the tubes and I am pretty sure that at that time the convection blower was not going. But its sure pushed out the heat in the shutdown mode. I hope its something simple..........yes?

The blower is not snap disc controlled. It is controlled off the POF switch and the controller. I would need to see it happen and check to see if power was being sent to the blower. If no power was pressent its a faulty blower(might have stalled). If no power was pressent it could either be a faulty POF or more likely the controller has a flakey TRIAC. Triac would be my guess!

I think its best to get the dealer involved. But it sounds like you might need a new control board.

There is an exhaust temperature sensor that controls that unit it has two brown wires that go to it.

on my manual for trouble shooting the convection blower it says to:

1) check the line fuse to see if it has blown
2) clean all grill openings at the back and below unit
3) check the voltage across the blower wires, it should adjust with the heat output settings. if not contact your local dealer for service.

other than that, it could be the ceramic fan temp sensor, or the computer board.

on the far out possibility, could it be the capacitor on the new blower fan?

Thanks all, I will call my new dealer..but a few questions. What is a Triac and a T/C, are they the same thing? And what is the Ceramic Fan Temp Sensor? I will check the 3 fuses..but the convection blower works fine in the shutdown mode....as for cleaning, I just did a complete cleaning two days prior and everythin was fine...

T/C is a thermocouple a device that generates a voltage in response to temperature.

Ceramic (Fan not really applicable) Temp Sensor is a temperature sensor (usually a snap disc) made of a ceramic material placed against the exhaust channel of the stove or the heat exchanger that will close at a set temperature. Ska as a POF or low limit switch.

Yes bear, It is the POF I meantioned above. It tells the controller there is fire(heat in the exhaust). It doesn't controll the fan directly. It only signals the control to start the fan. If the POF was faulty(not closing) the unit would have thought no fire was pressent and went into shutdown and flashed the #3 error code(no fire-out of fuel).

These units do not have a snap disc controlled convection fan like the quads. It is turned on, off, high and low by the controller.

Well it could be the POF is kaput or a wire is off or someone has ash in the area behind that switch or the switch is loose.

You never know with this bunch, you been playing in the guts of your stove bostonfan49?

Check the POF. It's located on the left side of the stove towards the back. Shortly after I put the new convention blower in last year I would start the stove and the blower wouldn't come on and would flash # 3 and went I press on/off button again the blower would come on. I had a tech out this summer for a cleaning and had him check that for me. The voltage on the POF was correct bit he said sometimes it doesn't make a good contact. He cleaned the contact on the sensor and now it works like a charm. Hope this helps. I also have the M55 Cast FS

First...to The Bear! No I don't play with guts because I lack the knowledge to know what the heck I would be doing. I do a very good job cleaning the stove! I do Enviro's monthly check every week However, I have not done much cleaning in the back of the stove ( I will admit) because I have not yet learned what to clean....I do clean and lube the chain and I do, carefully try to vacuum and clean as mush of the combustion blower as possible. What happened this morning resulted in " No flashing light at all" just no convection fan kick in after the initial start. *******So today, after work, I started the stove back up and sat there waiting to see what happens. After about 8-9 min after the initial start, I hear a slight CLICK, and sure enough the convection fan kicks in just like normal. So........now I am thinking maybe jrogers is right and maybe the POF has some dirt in it...or some other switch/contact. What bugs me is I did not get an error code. I found another long established stove, repair shop last week that sells and services Enviro, so I am going to pay them a visit before the end of the day! Bill

Why I don't think its the POF switch is the stove only starts in low fire mode until the switch has told the control its hot enough to go to high fire. If the POF is faulty it will shutdown and flash the 3 light. In other words the unit will not go to high fire like the OP stated.

I'll stick to faulty controller or stuck/stahled blower-loose wire at the blower problem.
