hi,
well, seems like another culprit has crept up to annoy me. when the feed drive kicks on, there is a thumping noise coming from the back of the stove. upon removing the back cover, voila! the auger gear drive is bouncing when the thumping noise appears. by placing my finger on the auger shaft and another finger on the gear drive, the gear drive seems to be the one jumping about(but that could be because of the rubber isolating mounts which gives in to the movement first). anyways, could it be my gear drive is on it's way out? can i dismantle it and fill with grease and inspect for wear. i might need a good source to order from, any suggestions?
thx and stay warm.

There are a couple things to check. Make sure your fines box is empty. When was the last time it was cleaned? Check for creosote buildup on the tip of the auger or in the auger cavity. An '05 Harman may still have the chain drive auger so if you are handy a full disassembly of the auger system might be a good idea. Aftermarket auger motors are readily available. Good luck.

the auger was removed this summer for inspection. gummied up and cleaned with installation of the cross-over hose. will reinspect the fines chamber. disassembly of the auger drive should be straight forward?

My dealer said the auger motor on my P68 is just 4-5 screws, and that he has to go in them occasionally to add/shift around grease.

Not sure about the Accentra, but on the P68 it's is 2 or 3 bolts to pull out the AUGER/MOTOR.

i removed the drive and ran it without the chain and it was making no noise. i decided to retightened the auger drive to the housing and so far all is well. it's hard to tell how tight to fasten with rubber sleeves on the screws(surely was caused when i removed it this summer).
thx for everyone's input!

hmm....fines container would be my first guess, but thats been done. 2nd guess would be gummy stove syndrome, but it seems thats been done. How about worn sprockets? See how shard the teeth of the sprockets are....if they are sharp, they need replaced. the chain can wear the sprockets, as the chain is a harder steel. Be forewarned, a new sprocket kit is somewhat pricey, but it includes two sprockets, the tensioner, a chain, and a new mounting frame assembly.....I THINK they are about $300 or so.....

from what i'm seeing, it could very well be the pellets and slide gate making the thumping noise. i am using a hardwood brand(cubex) this year and last year they were a softwood brand(Lacwood). maybe i should sharpen the slide gate and see if it helps any.

thumbs up at the moment! i was about to pull the trigger on a new auger drive but oiling the chain seems to quiet things down. the chain was flexible before but i guess oiling it is doing the trick.
stay warm and thirsty my friends!
