Pellets

Can you help me out. My stove is being installed in a couple of weeks.

What pellet should I buy. I bought a Harman p35i.

Locally there is the following
1. Green supreme 209
2. Green team 260
3. Main choice 209
4. Fireside 209
5. Infernos 209

Or I can go to the stove shop and get
New England pellets 259
Vermont super premium 279

Can you rank them and also tell me about heat and ash.

2,4,3,1,5...however I would not buy Infernos. NEWP is the same as Green Supreme. Vermont are excellent and by far the best on this list. Try a few bags before you buy any tonnage.

i own a p35i, based on my experience the ONLY pellet on that list I would but is the Green Team. I have experience with all the others except for Maine Choice and would not spend for them.

I don't have the time to do this in that large a scale. IMHO its better than nothin or at least they get a clue that they aren't all the same as some would think. Read in a bit and you will see I say to try them yourself to see what works the best for you and your stove.

Personally I don't think they will ever get old if used as a learning tool!

I for one don't think that jtakeman's reviews are irrelevant. I have been using them for the past few years ALOT. In fact I have lost track of how many times I made copies for my friends so they had a guide and a good starting point when seeking out pellets. I have used the lists and relied on them and find them to be an invaluable resource. Thanks J.

+1. Those reviews are a constant reference guide for me.

The reason I said that was the bag you had pictured for MWP was the old State of Maine bag and their pellets back then were absolute garbage. They couldn't sell the stuff they were making. The have reinvented their image by improving thier product and changed the bag to try not to be associated with the junk they made. No disrespect was intended because we all, myself included, value your tests.

Hopefully I can do the softies this weekend and I do have 2 bags of the blend(fresh fall batch). Couple others if it doesn't get too cold.

I don't know how you have time to do it on the scale you do.

That season was a slow one. I was on furlow for a week a month. So bordome was a factor.

Yeah I agree that "some" of the data is irrelevant (based on when it was tested) but as JT said its a reference only. And as others I'm sure do - I been going back to those threads for quite some time now.
What I find most interesting is the difference between hard woods and soft, blends etc Even if a specific pellet manufacture has changed and/or is sourcing from different mills - I enjoy reviewing the temperature numbers / ash amount and the observations logged.
EDIT - oh and one more thing - I know what some of those pellets cost - and what I really pay attn to is the performance of a "bargain" pellet versus what some consider the "gold standard". You don't always get what you pay for.

gr8one- I'm in the same area as you with the same choices and went with the Green Supreme from Lowes @ $209. I like them.

What did you decide?

I'd definetly try some of the FSU. Good deal for a bargin pellet IMHO. I'd also try some of the VMP's. Lots of good things have been posted about them.
