I'm looking for some real world numbers on how much wood garn owners go through yearly. I'm looking into getting one in the near future and am curious. Right now I am going through close to 1000 gallons of heating oil per year, how close is the 1chord equates to 150 gallons of oil estimate?

Welcome to Hearth!

I think you will find you wont get a great answer, because the amount of wood Garn users go through will be dependent upon the loads they serve, the species of wood, and the moisture content of that wood.

The 150 gallons to a cord will vary depending upon the type of wood you have to burn. Good seasoned hardwood may yield better results, while something like poplar or pine may be closer to 100 gallons per cord... (Im just making those numbers up off the top of my head, there are actual listings of BTU values for each type of wood). That said, a pound of wood has a given BTU value, so its all about the wood density and moisture content.

Heaterman could tell you all about Garns and if they are right for your application.

I used about a 1000 gal and use about 6-8 cord per year

I don't have a garn but have found the 1 cord/150 gallons estimate to be accurate. Could probably do better with the right dry wood.

It's my first season with the Garn I'm est 8+ the way it's going, Standing dead Fir and Pine for fuel , a large heat load with the house and shop, but have never been warmer the wife loves it. I dream about your equipment list for processing firewood, can you explain Garn vertical?

Garn makes units with the chimney vertical for those areas that cant have the horizontal chimney.

Happy Thanks Giving!
