BrotherBart,

Search is your friend and you should RTFM.

You got something against them fine Hindu translations of Sanskrit Chicken Scratchings ?????

They make perfect sense to us woodland critters that never made it out of Mrs Smith's third grade class at PS 43 in Jersey.

Dont forgtet, you need to sign " The Waiver " _g

I remember the days of UseNet. Still in a couple of groups there. The mantra was and is "The purpose of UseNet is to gangbang the cripples.". In the original incarnation of hearth.com there was some of that. Some outright wars about stuff and talking down to posters. With the move to the previous version of software and introduction of a skinny set of rules and the advent of mods it became a kinder, gentler place to hang out. And now it is the quality of the regulars that keep the place a good place to hang out or just to drop in to get answers.

Thousands of folks get the info they need without ever even signing up.

One time I called my business accountant and asked a payroll question that took a ten minute conversation to answer. A few days later I got a bill for $50.00 for the phone call. I explained to her that I spend all day answering questions and do not send out an invoice for any of them. She did not have anything to say to that other than she will look into it. Never heard back about it but I am in the market for a new accountant.

Eric

Any accountant who doesn't charge for phone time is going to be going out of business real soon. Mine is a childhood friend and up to over $200 an hour! As you can imagine, I don't call. In fact, I just got a bill from the state unemployment office saying I owe 150 from about 7 years ago. I tried my payroll service (free) but couldn't get an answer. So I wrote a check to the state figuring it's gonna be much cheaper than discovering and proving the truth (that I don't own it)

The very best thing about this forum is the quality of people here. I belong to a few other forums and really never post to them because no answer goes un punished. Not here. You guys show respect and patience to everyone...well, almost everyone but they deserved it :)

I usually read 90% of all the threads whether or not they are about my stove. I learn lots of things.

Even if the same person answers the same questions, sometimes the wording is just a bit different to find a solution to a problem.

I appriciate each and every one of you and all the help you have given us.

This is only our second heating season so I consider myself a grasshopper in training yet.

Did she send you another bill for calling and asking what the hell the first bill was for...now that would be funny!

My billing rate was $250 an hour before I retired. Phone or office. Nobody ever complained. Most of the time when they called they had screwed up and needed to know how to dig out of it. And ended up paying me a hell of a lot more.

When I got a stove in 1998 it was hard to find info. You had to go to the stove shops to pick their brain. I had a shop that would spend the time with me when I had questions. Now I try to help out members if I can to repay the favor. Today I talked on the phone to a member on here as he just got his first stove and was having issues. He was very nice and willing to learn. I have though that I knew something and then learned more about it reading on here. I do search before I ask questions.

Wish I was warned about the swine flue LOL

Came here 5+ years ago with nothing to share, and I still have most of it left :)

Been a fun run. Seems burning solid fuel stuffs brings good natured folks out of the wood work.

This is where I come down as well. I participate in several other forums but this one contains some of the nicest folks who are always willing to help. I, too, get frustrated with the person who jumps in without doing a search, but the chances are they are cold and frustrated and want a quick reply/repair. I am by no means an expert, but I try to help the Harman folks whenever I can. If I don't know, I don't reply.
