Found A New Pellet Today

Stopped in a local Menards today and found a new pellet to the area. These are Lee Energy Solutions pellets from Crossville, AL.

It looks like there are some pretty long pellets being produced in the video. I bought two bags to try and haven't opened either yet. I'm waiting for a new K type thermocouple to arrive before I test so I can provide accurate information versus some others I have.

These were $3.69 a bag. The video states they are a hardwood/softwood blend, although the bag says hardwood.

I'll post results when I test.

All 3 of my Menards carry only Somersets. On sale for $175/ton about 3-4 times a year.

The Somersets seem to be less common here all the time. Let's hope that trend doesn't continue.

As for the new pellets, my expectations are low but my hopes are high!

As one wise man put it, "They're made in Alabama. It's always warm there. What would they know about making a pellet for heat?"

Bought a bag of those yesterday. Its gonna get pretty cold this weekend. I will try them then.

Got the stove cleaned up good to go. Poured the lees in the hopper just a bit ago. I like the smell of these pellets. Im not saying they smell like cologne or anything, but its an odor that i like. Anxious to see how they burn. Bought mine at TSC. Still have 2- 1/2 tons of somersets from last year. So im good to go for now.

Man i can never find any pellet around here for under $4.50 a bag.
Oh well maybe one day.

Anxious to here your head to head opinion versus the Somersets. I haven't burned any yet.

Well my experience with this pellet. Ok but not great. Been messing with the LBA, LFF . Getting no where near the heat of the somersets.

Also getting a small bit of clinkers, Not use to those.

Currently got my feed rate turned up 3 steps higher than i usually run to get the same heat as the somersets. Will not be my first choice in a pellet. Not the worst or best ive tried.

Not alot of soot (at least so far).

Got them burning pretty good right now. (4-5-1) where as somersets (3-5-1) Alot of tweaking the settings though (till they seem to be most efficient). They do burn clean. Glass is just barely sooty in the corners.

Just takes a bit more pellets in the burn pot to get the same heat as the pellets im use to.

And since both are priced the same. Ill stick with the somersets.

If i could get a good deal on a ton of these, i prob would buy more. Otherwise better savings with my usual brand.

Yeah. Fahrenheit is pumping away now. I love it to much to get rid of it now.

My dealer has 2 of them for sale. A floor model (demo) and a new unit. Its pretty far away, but the prices are pretty good ($2,000 for demo and $3,000 for new).

I got the CPM through AMFM. It was a "Factory Second". It had a small blemish on it (cant see it). It was made 4/2/2012 and it was delivered 4/12/2012. Within 10 days of being made, I had it. Still got it at the Refurb price $1150.

I was gonna replace the Quad with it. But after some experimenting, I decided to leave the Quad in the house. It creates a fair amount more heat, than the CPM. Quad has far less features. But I want heat and efficiency.

For now it stays in the shop.

Finally ran a short sample run of the Lee Energy pellets early this evening with the same results as jdempsey. I didn't let them go long enough to get any decent idea of ash or soot, though. Heat was far enough off of Somersets that I had seen enough. I'd burn them if I had to.
