Mostly ash and I have only been burning intermittently so far as it's been mild here..

If the weather stays as mild here as they are predicting...I will have a lot of wood left over again this year. Its not a bad thing thou...I have been told to give my back a rest and I havent been cutting much this season. Passing up on good scrounges sucks!

Next week will be in the 20's every night but not too severe yet.. Hard to run the T-5 in mild weather.. Must be tough for you?

It is always difficult keeping the stove hot enough without running us out...I guess I will get better in time. The weather here has to be pretty cold before I even light it...or it just gets too hot. Sounds like you got some nice weather to stretch her legs a little...

Boy, how do you guys find time to stay on here for a bit....I can never stay on here very long before someone calls or finds something better for me to do with my few minutes of free time...ha

I've been on vacation this week so I have more free time however my washing machine croaked and my Squaretrade warranty was due to expire in 1 day. They determined that it was cheaper to refund what I paid for the washer so I researched the problem and found the culprit and fixed it for $74.00! Now I will recieve what I paid and I fixed it for short money myself but it was a bear to get this damn thing apart and took me 4hrs.. I also replaced the toilet fill valve on the upstairs bathroom while I was off so I got a few things done and still had time for this and beers :)

I've been getting big clink like that in BOTH stoves from the silver maple and ash I've been burning. I pulled a couple out of each stove today that were around that same size......

Sugar maple makes a lot of clink, too. Lots of it. I guess it's the minerals that are in the soil where the tree grows....

It would be interesting to see why these are formed. I shouldn't have to tell you this Scott but pictures or it didn't happen! ;)

Didn't get pics of them as I'm so used to having clink with the maple and ash I'm burning, I just throw it out with the ash. Next time I'll get some pics if I think of it.

Good answer with visual measurements too! I think leaving lots of ash adds a lot to clinker size too along with hot fires in contact with the ash..

Yes it does! I usually only have to do a cleanout on the 1900p once every other week or so when I'm burning ash/maple/locust/elm, as I have been for several weeks. That stuff all burns down to absolute powder. I burn the ash and maple when we are able to check on the stove every couple of hours, and use the locust/elm for overnighter/extended leave fires. That means a TON of extended heat on the ash bed, which results in some decent clink.
