...I decided to strap my Stihl onto my DR650 last spring to go out and do some trail clearing.

Came upon this tree across the trail, someone had already gone around (creating damage)...

So I stopped...

...and did this.

Funny you ask. I didn't take my chaps along, but I did have earplugs and my kevlar sawyer gloves in my tank bag instead of using my moto gloves.

I probably should wear the helmet, but it was all groundwork, and I needed to cool off from riding.

Actually, most of the USFS districts in Colorado are extremely happy to have volunteers out keeping trails clear. With the beetle kill taking 90+% of our lodgepole, we are getting more and more tree fall and blow down.

The FS is so under staffed underfunded, they can't get much done.

I can't imagine there would be many '83 IT 490's riding around anymore.

I will keep an eye out for you gmule, although I'm getting older and slower so only the easiest trails for me on the DR. Perhaps someday I will have a woods bike.

Saw mount is a bar clamp designed for ATV's and sold by Moose. The silly thing is about as heavy as the Stihl itself. Ideally I would choose a smaller saw, but it's all I have for now.

I used to ride an IT175, don't even remember the year,sold it to a brother of a friend, had a headlight, taillight, little tool kit on rear fender and a kick butt powerband, you had better be hanging on when that torque tube kicks in! Never sell your toys! I always regret it!

I know what you mean I have had this bike for a lot of years. Too many to remember

I also have a '04 YZ450F It is a nice bike that is narrow, Light, and handles well. It is also very predictable when you grab the throttle. But nothing beats the ride of a vintage big bore 2 stroke. Sometimes I think this thing has a mind of its own. If it were a horse it would probably race you back to the barn after it threw you on the ground and stomped your head. My Brother in law saw it on the stand in my garage and asked to ride it.I told him that he might want to reconsider but he insisted. Too bad he only lasted 5 minutes before it threw him to the ground. I felt bad for laughing but I warned him.

I remember my first ride on a big bore two-stroke. Not even sure what it was, but it was a yamaha in the 400+ CC range...I was used to riding my suzuki 125. I didn't get bucked off, but holy crap I didn't know what I was in for.
