Hey folks, does anyone have any experience using this fuel treatment product. I was over picking up some 100% 90 octane gas from the only source within 25 miles of me for my chainsaw (4.08/gal, bought "regular" 10% ETOH here today for 3.39). I mentioned about still having some 10% ethanol fuel in my boats tank and the guy recommended that I either siphon it out now (don't let it sit till spring) or add this Star-Tron product. Its specially designed to stabilize ethanol in gas through specialized enzymes. He claimed Sta-Bil won't do anything to deal with the ethanol. Any thoughts?

I used Startron in my boat prior to selling it. I bought the boat new and used it for 6 seasons burning E-10 the whole time and never had a fuel related issue. I did treat my fuel at every fill up though. In my opinion Startron is the best fuel additive for treating ethanol gas on the market.
 
I use Stabil Ethanol treatment in my boat and lawn mower. No issues so far with either - using it 4 years on boat, just bought the mower this year.
 
Been using Star Tron for the past 2-4 years (whenever it was that ethanol started being added to all the fuel) . . . I pretty much only use it when storing the machinery for long term. So far I've had zero issues with any fuel . . . whether it be in a two-stroker or four-stroker . . . sled, chainsaw, ATV, lawn tractor, generator. . . .
 
BP, I started using Star Tron about two years ago at the recommendation of my Stihl dealer, after having some trouble with my fairly new Stihl MS250 (it was running rough) -- he attributed it to ethanol and/or water in the gas. I add Star Tron to both the regular (lawnmower) and 2-cycle (chainsaw and leaf blower) gas cans. I have not had a problem since with the chainsaw, and the leaf blower and lawnmower run great. Adam

That's what our local Stihl dealer recommends.
 
I picked up a case of this stuff on the cheap when they changed the concentration. (New bottles need fewer oz per gallon). I put it in all my fuel for OPE. Haven't had any fuel related issues, and I can't find ethanol free fuel near me. I figure it's cheap insurance.

Startron is probably the most economical additive to run, not to mention effective. I run E10 in everything I own, treat all my fuel (because some of it goes into customer machinery and I can't control how long it sits with fuel in it) and I have never had a problem, even with pieces I only use 1 or 2 times a year.

The old formula for Stabil won't do squat for the ethanol blended fuels but there is a "Marine" formula that is reputed to be effective. I've not seen the old formula on shelves for quite some time now.

I recently purchased a new Honda generator and the Honda dealer told me the same thing as stated above. He said they use Star Tron in all their OPE now because of the problems some folks have seen using the E10 fuel. After going on-line and reading up on this product, I decided to switch to Star Tron to reduce any chance of problems with long term storage (generally less than 6 months) of ethanol based fuel. My fuel gets rotated often enough between my various OPE that hopefully the E10 won't be a problem but I feel better knowing it's stabilized.
 
Thanks for all your replies folks. Obviously this is a good product and I'm going to start using it. First to get treated is that in-hull tank in my boat! I'll be using that gas up in Febuary fishing in the lower Niagara for Trout/Salmon/Muskie, but it won't hurt to treat it now (we get the muskie by accident fishing for the others ....... they love them little X4 "firedot" flatfish too).
 
Started using it this summer after having some problems. I add a little bit of Star Tron and Sea foam after I empty the gas cans, so I won't forget to add when I fill them. I had no problems after that. Although I use most of my equipment daily for yard work, some of it will sit at times especially with the draught this summer.
Actually had an old trimmer neglected for years. Would not even fill the bulb. Sat overnight with the mixture an the next day filled it and started, and ran pretty good. I recommended this to a friend and he had the same luck with a tiller that would start. My dealer turned me on to it also.
 
Here in NY there are more and more stations switching back to non ethanol High test. So I would think Basic Stabil would work just fine, plus a reduction in rubber problems.

If you have any Fastracks down there check there, most of the ones up here have it.

I havent set foot in a saw/small engine shop in prolly 8+ years. Parts availabilty online (I can usually have it as fast as the dealer and at my door) and not standing in line for an hour just to be told "we have to order that part" is PRICELESS.
Place I buy my equipment/truck parts recomended K100.
I've been running it in all the small engine equipment in the service trailer and anything else that may sit for extended periods, with good results.
 
I think I'll try Startron. What's a reasonable price for the stuff? One local source has it for $13 for 8 fl oz.
 
Way back when ethanol first hit the gas pumps I was hearing StarTron, K-100 or the Marine version of Stabil . . . I think you would be good with any of the three. I went with StarTron as it was easily available.
 
I found it at Lowes the cheapest at around $7
