Sometimes in the dead of winter Ill pull a round off my rack in the basement and discover it's a tad too big to shove in to the 30NC. Rather than drag it outside into the snow and fire up my MS-261 to shave it or just find a round that fits - id like to plugin in an electric and shave it right there in the basement.

Simce this kind of thing is an infrequent use I don't feel the need to buy STIHL electric for $500+.

Can anyone recommend a cheap electric chainsaw that would serve the purpose well.

I gave up on my Craftsman 18" electric. It broke down and the next five units I exchanged it for under warranty broke down in the same manner the first time I had to tighten the chain. Every time you open up the head - it causes something electrical to short out. I did 5 exchanges in one week then realized this is a worthless saw.

Would like < $150 electric chainsaw for occasional indoor trimming the edges of a round to fit it in the stove.

Yeah I know this sounds incredibly lazy.....

Maybe you already have one.

Miter saw? SawzAll? Band Saw?

Chainsaw indoors is gonna make a mess. :p

FWIW, even though the initial price of admission is high, Stihl's battery operated tools make much more economic sense if you can justify two or three of them for other tasks and spread the cost of the batteries/charger out amongst multiple tools.

Wow: Just checked the price on the MSE140 12", $319.95. _g I thought they were a little less than that. We sold a few of them to the attached landscape/nursery store for trimming up Christmas trees when they got tired of the cheapies not making it through a day. That was 6 years ago, they still run 'em.

My 2 cents: I just toss those large splits aside and take care of them next time I have the saw out. Never saw the need to buy a separate one just for indoor use.

Same here. ;)

Dolmar 173A. $200 for a real pro electric that will have all the torque you need to run a 16" bar. I love mine, it's a real beast. Use canola oil from the supermarket instead of bar oil if you plan to use it inside. The stink of regular bar oil trapped indoors will make you want to gag after a while.

Hey, Battenkiller! Where ya been?

Been busy fixing this place up the way I want. Almost done with the bulk of it, time to kick back and stir up trouble again on Hearth.com. lol

Seems I've lost my old screen name and most of my PMs since they re-did the forum. Place looks great now and the site is FAST, but I want to go back to being BK again.

About a hundred bucks more than your target, but I love my Husky 316E. Built like a tank.
