This is my first year using Chaps and Helmet. I feel safer and much more confident, not over confident. Who here is wearing safety protection and what other safety items are good to have. Anyone out there not wearing but thinking of wearing?

I'll be honest, I don't have any PPE, I do think from time to time I should invest in some. For some reason around here it is not very common, I have literally never seen someone wearing PPE around here, besides a few professionals.

The biggest thing that I think would be worth the investment to me would be chaps!

I never see anyone wearing it either. Took me a while to pull the trigger but one small slip and your life could change

Totally agree. Where did you pick yours up? Any recommendations?

I'm wearing the Chaps (9 layer) the helmet with ear protection along with ear plugs, gloves, http://www.husqvarna.com/us/accesso...d-clothes/gloves/chain-saw-protective-gloves/ I also have the Stihl cutting shirt http://www.stihlusa.com/products/protective-and-work-wear/chain-saw-protective-apparel/proshirt/
 I also have these boots. http://www.labonville.com/Labonvill...ox-Toe-Boot-Made-In-The-USA--24127_p_248.html

I need to invest in some ppe. I always have gloves on and eye protection, but chaps are a reasonably priced investment that I need to make.

I wear chaps. I bought a pair of Stihl chaps for about 80 bucks I guess. I am glad I have them. I tore a very small sliver in them after a few years of wearing them. Glad it wasn't my jeans and my leg. I also wear hearing protection and safety glasses when I can stand to have them on. If they start fogging up on me off they go into the chain saw case. The next thing I need to get is a helmet with a face shield. I almost bought one one day, then backed away from it. ;lol Maybe I should ask Santa for that as well. Along with a three point hitch set of pallet forks. Oh yea. Dem dere is goin on da top a da list.

I have the chaps, helmet, and boots, but for quickie jobs I tend to wear only hearing protection, glasses, and gloves. After SmokeyCity's incident, I'm going to get serious about putting the whole kit on anytime I cut.

I am also going to look into chainsaw gloves versus the leather work gloves I wear now.

I wear saftey glasses and head phones.. Thought about chaps, but never bought any.

I'm one of the few who wears chaps around here. I also wear a helemt w/face screen (makes me look better ;lol)

No chaps or helmet for me, but I always wear steel-toed boots, gloves, and eye and ear protection.

I bought my stihl chaps slightly used on ebay and picked up a new in box stihl helmet off of craigslist. Got both for 80 bucks total. Spent quite a bit of time searching these out.

Won't start the saw without ear protectors, but no other PPE.

Long story, but I will be brief.
laid a runing 372xp across my upper left thigh,
would have bled out in less than one minute.
IF NOT FOR MY HUSKY CHAPS!

I know no picture it didnt happen.
Mabye I will get a picture of the chaps.
I believe PPE is a must at all times.

I use ear muffs as I can't hear worth a dang. Usually composite toed shoes and gloves. Have a helmet when/if cutting dead trees. Have husqvarna chaps from lowes on a shelf in the shop bought several years ago but never have wore them, not good.

Are the boots waterproof and insulated. It didn't seem to say.

Been there, done that. ;em Boots, chaps, earmuffs w/visor mesh-shield attachment, gloves.

If you can afford I say why not? You will get used to them pretty quick.

I have an old pair of chaps that only extend slightly below the knee. I like them a lot because they dont restrict my movement nearly as much as the full chaps. Other than that I usually wear a hardhat when felling and always wear safety glasses and usually wear gloves too, now. I wear hearing protection but i'm cutting all day sometimes. The new saws aren't all that bad but I am not trying to be a tough guy with the hearing, that's for sure. I think the face shield and full chaps hinder me to the point where it is more of a safety concern personally than the protection but to each their own.

The biggest thing you can do to be safe IMO is to be in shape and/or know when you are getting tired

My usual is the following:

Stihl forestry helmet w/metal mesh shield (clear safety glasses underneath)
Labonville full-wrap chaps
Steel toe boots
Stihl antivibration gloves.

The metal mesh protects my entire face from debris, and the safety glasses keep the fine dust away and whatever manages to get under the shield when cutting at odd angles. When I'm not felling or trimming trees, many times I'll forgo the helmet and just wear the safety glasses and good earmuffs.

Are you happy with the Stihl cutting shirt? I have been thinking about getting one.
