P43 finished up installing today.... one word unbelievable!!!

Wow, I am completely amazed... a little back I was questiiniong my reasearch on whether or not this stove would heat my house?? Now, granted its 32 tonight, so fairly warm... Holy moly.... My kitchen and upstairs is HOT... And my living room (farthest room from stove) is after 6 hours of running is just 3 degrees cooler!???? Wow, this is amazing this thing works this well, im blown away...

My question is... Can I expect this type of performance when it actually gets really cold out, and would instling a doorway fan help with the living room and keep the kitchen and upstairs from getting so warm
, do the doorway fans actually work? And, we have 17 inches from.stove to wall, i touch the wall and its really warm, should we tile that wall, or is the 17 clearance installation reccommends is truly ok?

What mode ansd temp are you running in? If it's that hot, turn it down.

I have it on room temp, it was at 70, i woke up and turned it down to 65

What you'll probably find is that in the 30's and high 20's the stove won't have any problems keeping you warm. Teens and single digits it will have to work pretty hard. Several consecutive cold blustery cloudy days are hard as well.

I know you had problems with the install, glad to see you got it running.

It's 17 here with a wind out of the NW at 17 MPH. I woke up to a balmy 70.7 in my living room. Ya gotta love it.

Where do you have your probe?

Here's a tip: I and I know there's others on this side have thermometers on the side of our stoves. It'a a good quick visual indicator of what the stove is doing. ALl you need is a magnetic stovepipe thermometer that can bo had at any box store fairly inexpensively.

Stick aroung this site and you'll learn a lot.

Be prepared to become OCD.

Congratulations! Enjoy the new stove! You will love it.
The P series stoves can put out a lot of radiant heat. How warm is really warm? Can you keep your hand there for any length of time? For peace of mine you might want to think about getting the heat shields. Mine are supposedly on their way. A fellow forum member also noticed his drywall temp was rather high even though the stove (P38 I believe) was installed according to the install manual. They are less than $100. Somewhere around $75 I believe.

17 inches is plenty. The firebox only needs to be 12 inches away.

Wait till it gets real cold out and you have to really run that thing.

My P61 gets so hot that you cant even think about touching the sides of the thing.

At 17 inches from the wall, crank the stove and dont worry, just enjoy.

Reading your posting, you have it set on 65 / 70 and it is keeping the house warm, you definitely have plenty on the "gas pedal" to crank it up on a cold cold day. Read up on cleaning the pellet stove as that will have to be done about once every ton of pellets. Periodically look at the ash bin and empty when needed.

Fans are good to move and circulate air. Always blow cold air into the hot room. Rule of thumb, fans should be on the floor, the lower the better. Although many of us have them high and low. Definitely takes some experimentation.

Believe me, it won't be long before you're answering question.

Im blown away, and happy I can keep my family this warm and I turned off the oil yesterday and hopefully will not turn it on again or not that much! I bought one of those small, square shaped circulating fans but have it blowing the air from the hot room out into the room next to it. It seems to work pretty well but I'm wondering if I'd be better off trying your approach. I also have two ceiling fans in the hot room blowing the hot air down from the ceiling into the living space.....The experimentation continues.

I remember you ! Congrats you are fine for clearance I think ! Enjoy the warmth I used to run my house at 65 with oil now I run it at a toasty 73-75 at a lot less cost .. I am very happy for you ..Now you need to get pellet fever like the rest of us crazies on here and start trying different kinds ..lol Trust me it will happen . I also own a p43 and it warms my whole house a 1200 square foot ranch . It was the best thing I ever did ! Congrats again ! It gets some cold up here-ah in the great white north ayuh !

Let me add my welcome to the group! Come back often with questions and in a little while, you'll be chiming in with your helpful advice for 'new comers' just as the rest of us do! Like others have said, keep it clean (the stove, that is) and it will serve you well. Just don't get anal about cleaning.
On a side note, the addition of tile or brick to the wall will do nothing for protection since there is no air space between the two. After steady state is reached on the temperature, the wallboard will be just as hot as the tile. The heat shields they were talking about are a piece of sheet metal spaced away from the wall and up off of the floor. That way air can circulate up between the shield and the wall and carry the heat up into the room. It would actually improve the efficiency, me thinks.
