I hung our Advent calendar today. I love it and it fits perfectly above the big hearth where the XXV is. This year we added extra nails to keep it tight and close to the mantel rather than "swagging" down too low to the stove.

Is this safe? I don't feel much heat and it's really no closer than the wood facing on the fireplace, but for some reason I am paranoid....

It might be safe, but I'd worry about combustible bits dangling over a heat source. I think that they would catch fire much more easily than a piece of wood. I am over cautious about fire, however.

Can't see no calendar, guess ya took it down already???????????

Looks like it's at least 20" away. Should be good as long as it's secure.

The house looks OLD and awsome. I bet there is some history there.

If you ask the question, you probably already think that you shouldn't be doing this. If you think that you shouldn't, you shouldn't!

I wonder what would happen if that white stocking fell down and sat on the vent pipe.

No worries nothing was ever put in the stocking's wait they were filled but the weren't hanging behind the stove when they were. You're right could have created an issue when the wife decorates this year will double check how secure the decorations are. Thanks:)

I so not think that install is to spec. Read yet UL plate and see what the alcove measurements are

Are you talking to me? It's in a fireplace not an alcove, and was done to spec.?
