Advice on installing the CATS on my stove please

I just got the two cats for my Sierra 007 today. They are uncanned ceramic. Do I need to do anything other than drop them into place like cement them or anything to make a seal? any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks

Is there any sort of gasket looking material on the perimeter of the elements? On some stoves there is a layer of stuff that expands with heat to seal them in place.

Nope just the ceramic material. They are number 007 on www.mychimneyworld.com or aci 33 at other sites. The stove is made by the original incarnation of Sierra manufacturing.

I agree that the cat usually sits on a gasket. On our stove when changing the cat, there is a frame around the cat which you need to disassemble but it is only one bolt so simple. Then there also is a thin gasket that wraps around the cat before you put it into the frame.

Perhaps it would be good to ask the manufacturer or maybe the information is in the manual.

I wish I could but it seems to be next to impossible, Brotherbart pointed me to the cats and gave me the history lesson. It was actually the reason I joined this forum last year. My stove looks like a Papa Bear with a bypass and full baffle and shelved/lipped window that they go in.

Yes finding info on it is difficult, plus I have crap luck on finding anything on the internut. This stove is amazing though it has a large firebox (about 4cf), great heat output (450-750 sustainable stovetop temps), and amazingly long burn times (8 hrs @ 500+ 19 hrs @450 and 290 @22hrs total is our record for 1 burn) mind you that this was on a warm weekend and i was home to constantly monitor and adjust the knobs for maximum output and maximum burntime. Hopefully the cats make this better although they will mostly improve the emissions since there is no secondary air intake. Any improvement is frosting on the cake really, and it will satisfy my curiosity on saving some of the wasted gases. The smoke is already a nice thin wispy blue when she is crankin' out the btu's and only dense for the first 30 on a reload.
