Selling green firewood around here is like selling snow to an Eskimo right now.

there is soo much down right now all over in rockland. the town depts are overwhelmed so i hope it sits around till spring. we need snow to redirect where/how they spend their tax monies.

I grew up in stony point and my folks still live there.......when I speak to the folks all they say is "if you lived down here right now you get get years worth for firewood for free" If I wasn't two hours away I'd be doing trips with a trailer and grabbing what I can!

Yup, after Sandy there are piles on the side of the road everywhere. There is a huge pile of maple and oak in white plains. I may snatch some of the oak monday if its still there. Its .2 miles from my office.

1 cord is two trips with my 1 ton, 3 or more with the Canyon. Unless it's very close to home, $125 a cord is a deal after I think about fuel to cut it, haul it, split it, the incidental expenses that come with that and of course my time.

Nope, I'm not buying any as I'm set for 2013-14, and well on my way for 2014-15. I am probably going to run out of wood this year, sometime in Feb. :( Will have to investigate my options or there will be tears as I turn the 'stats on. <>

I'll buy DRIPPING WET green wood at $125 /cord all season vs $200+ a cord (the going rate around here) for "seasoned" wood. If I were one to buy my wood, that is. ;)

Good point. Just have to get ahead is all.

On final approach at White Plains, just south of the airport, is a huge area where there's a ton of trees. They are spitting up some, chipping others. I didn't get a chance to really check it out.. I was going 130mph or so at the time. :)

I'm in Katonah. free wood everywhere, too bad I cannot identify one tree from another (beside pine). or I would be picking up more. I got plenty down on my property to deal with

Yep, we bought 5 cords green, cut, split, delivered for $125/cord this summer. Guy's selling the same wood now for $200/cord. It's no more seasoned now than it was then, but it's that time of year...

For those newbie woodburners here, this guy's price drops to $100 a cord if you buy 9 cords. If you have the space, this guy will back up and dump what is most likely a 3 year supply for many folks in your driveway for $900. And like, wham, you're 3 years ahead just like that. ;)
