Spent the morning yesterday helping forum member 'red oak' cut some downed oak (Sandy damage) off of his national forest cutting permit. We got a total of 3 loads of oak (the other species available in this area is known as 'not oak'). It was way too warm for December, but a good time was had by all (except maybe the truck).

Good way to spend a saturday.

Good work ailanthus. That is what trucks are for.

That is great that you can get this type of wood off the national land. Many areas won't allow it.

Not sure of all the details, but you can get an annual permit for ~$20 that gives ~4 cord. I'm a little far from the national forest to make it practical for myself, but if you're close by it's a great deal.

And that is very similar to our state owned lands here except they can only get wood that is already down. Cutting a tree on state lands will bring some hefty fines if one is caught.

Same here - dead or down.

Nice load & then some.
Is the truck bed set up for side boards ? :)
