Nice work gzecc. Now split that up to about 5-6" across and stack it and it will give you some nice BTUs in a little over a year when it is nice and dry. How much work do you have to do? I hope you did not have any damage to the house.
10 Rockerfeller center size pines and 10 smaller ones. Nothing hit the house. Some came down around us.

Sorry you lost the trees man. Will you replant when you can? I transplanted a maple tree that my f.i.l. gave me about, oh, 6 or 7 years ago. I can not believe the size of it now. It was about 3 inches across and maybe 20 feet tall. It is about twice the diameter now and must be 35 feet tall. With a huge span of branches. I was actully surprised it made it. All the leaves fell off of it and I thought it was going to die. The next spring it came back like it never even got transplanted. Anywho, maples are a nice tree. And grow fast.

That definitely looks like you had some big ones come down. Good for you on getting them cut up.
ah, one of my favorite parts of cutting pines......those damm branches! It is AMAZING how many branches you end up with from one measly pine tree, isn't it? However, that said, I do like to burn that pine. I NEVER would have even considered burning it just a couple of years ago, but since joining this site I've become a believer. I used a PILE of it in my maple syrup evaporator last winter and WOW, did that stuff ever help evaporate a pile of liquid out of that sap! I burnt a whole blue spruce (it was round 50 - 60 foot tall) through the evaporator. Now, it was green and I did this outside, but it STILL put out the heat. you get that pine nice and dry, and it's great for shoulder season/mixed loads.......

Ok, you guys are speaking against all I have ever been told, which is to never burn pine in doors no matter how long its been drying. Insight please.

Well. Here is the deal. Too many people, have learned that Pine creates creosote because too many people burn wood that they just cut in the late summer or fall that year. As long as you get it dried out just like any other wood. It creates great BTUs, but burns away faster than good hard woods because it is less dense. Should be cut/split/stacked (c/s/s) outside for at least one full year. Hopefully with some wind and sun on it. Pine is fine.

Thanks, joined in October and posted first posts today. I actually forgot about the site and then found arboristsite.com it's ok but it seems to be more for wood businesses than the average joe so now I'm back here from a woodshed search.

We burn in an old Hutch Rebel insert that came in our house when we bought it five years ago. During the inspection it was found to have no liner so we haven't used it until the last week since we finally made getting it lined a priority.
We have hard maple, hickory, sassafras tulip poplar and some pine at least. I dropped a black walnut about three years ago but can't bring myself to cut it up for firewood. I'll post our whole fireplace story in a new thread later tonight or tomorrow with pics and prices. Got kiddos to get to bed.
