The wife made an Artisan loaf of bread with rosemary and thyme,,, let it proof for 24 hours,, then the dogs enjoyed the heat as we cranked the oven to 450,,,, the end result,, perfectly cooked bread ,,,,can't beat that wood heat.

That is so awesome. My grandmother baked bread in a beehive oven in the cellar.
Does that stove make hot water too?
I want one.

Save me a slice, I'll be right over! ;lol

Looks great.

I'm curious, was she using her own, or a Jim Lahey of Sullivan St Bakery no-knead recipe?

Yes , Esse offers a hot water tank as an option, you can then thermosiphon hot water to heat a hot water tank. I choose not to get the hot water option.

Pen,, the wife got the recipe from "Allrecipies.com" , it's a no knead Artisan style bread. Going to get into the bread baking now that we have the Esse. Have to invest in a Kitchen Aid dough mixer. Nice eating good whole grain breads and no additives.

Been making scratch breads/biscuits and such since I was a kid. Can't beat the quality, you know what's in the product, and with a bit of practice, really isn't much effort at all.

Now if only I had a legitimate oven like that!

Make sure you are sharing the compliments here with the lady!

You are a lucky man!

Nice looking loaf. I'd plop a chunk of that in an olive oil, cracked pepper, salt and herb dipping oil. I bet it smelled incredible.
That was our first try at baking bread in the Esse,,, it did smell great,,,, even the dough proofing had a really nice smell. I'm sure we'll get better as we continue baking in the Esse. Good idea with the olive oil!

My beloved wife found a book of rustic/artisan breads through Mother Earth News.

Nothing really compares to home baked bread!

I will take savory over sweets most any day, and I would usually choose warm bread over cakes and cookies.

Cheers!

Aw, man that looks good. I can smell it through the computer. Wow, now I REALLY want one of those stoves!! I bet a turkey cooked 'low and slow' in that oven would be incredible, too. I'm telling ya, Charly......I built the hearth in my kitchen to accomodated that very stove. Tell me when you are going on vacation and leave the keys to your house under the mat......;):p
