im guessing there is no problem with stove brite sticking to bare metal?

We got the stove over there today. Pulled the new Firecat combustor out of the box, and it was damaged. It had clearly been dropped on a corner, before it was packed for shipping

Finally, chimney is up, tile is down. Fire on Thursday.... 2012-12-11_16-18-09_454.jpg 2012-12-11_16-29-01_887.jpg

Looking good, keep us posted.

Well? Its thurday, did you fire that baby up?

Grrr. Didn't get home until almost 1:30 this afternoon, then had to take a kid to the dentist at 4:30. As soon as the kids get on the bus tomorrow, I'm heading over.

Lit a few small soft maple splits about 11 this morning. Took it easy and let it go for about thirty minutes, then opened it up a bit and got the cat probe in the active zone. The new Firecat was bright orange about ten seconds after closing the bypass. The draft is wicked with 21' of class A, and 5.5' of double wall connector. So far, it's perfect. I left my nephew in charge, and I'll go back this evening for a good load.

sweet. It looks almost new.

Great find and a great project. Thanks for documenting your progress. You've got to be feeling good about how this has all come together. I love your frugal spirit, getting good value, but paying attention to detail and not scrimping. Sit back and enjoy the warmth. You've earned it!

Thanks. I am happy with the way things went. There were no real surprises. Everything went as it should have, it just took time. She lives about thirty minutes away, so I really didn't do anything unless I could dedicate the whole day. Then I had to coordinate schedules with her friends that have a Sky Trak to get on the roof. I did the flashing and first section of pipe from a ladder, but the last two pieces of pipe and the brace were a bit scary with a 10/12 pitch. Now to finish the trim.

Pretty basic on the install. We had to keep the footprint as small as possible. Clearances aren't bad with this stove, but it is just big to begin with.

There is just over $1k in the stove, which looks and works like new. Another $1800 or so in chimney and flooring. Not too bad. It will pay for itself by next winter.

For $1000 you cant beat that, looks new, nothing like a new cat too.

Finally got it ready. Just have to slide the cat in. Had some trouble getting parts from BK, but again thanks to Konieczka, it got straightened out. Everything is welded up, 3.5 cans of metallic black Stove Bright, and new gaskets. If anybody is interested, the first coat is good for a whole can!

Now I just have to build a throne.
Wow nice job,,, know sell it for 1200 dollars;lol
