Matt, as far as the overnight burns, you'll be fine, hottest my stove has gotten is 525, after running it during the day as if I were leaving it for the night. To me the Fireview seems well under control in the cat mode. I never worried about it running away..
Not to say that your Fv will run away, but it may have hit higher temps at night than you have observed during the day. Draft is usually stronger at night, because it's colder outside, and also because there is less stack effect from the house itself acting like a chimney when sunlight heats the attic, which competes with the stove's chimney for draft.

YMMV, but stack effect strongly affects how a stove runs in this house. Our ol' smoke dragon insert in masonry chimney basically wouldn't run in the afternoon; the Fv + liner will run fine 24hrs, but I usually give it less air at night. Maybe you do too. . .anyhow, here's a trick you can use to check overnight temps: :)

Great picture Matt... The wife has to love the stove that she can run it... I agree it's an amazingly straight forward stove to run. My dogs sucked right up to that soapstone heat,, never too much with the steel Quad 5700 I had.. They must really notice the heat output difference with the stone. Left my air setting for the first time at 1... it's usually always under 1. I had 550 degree stove top temp, hottest the stove has been so far,,,, man does that throw out heat,,,, I can't imagine at 600-650. Stove room was at 79 degrees ,,, 25 degrees out. This thing is a power house,,, and that's just burning silver maple , not a high BTU hardwood at all. Can't wait to burn some higher BTU wood. Your in for a treat Matt,, and what a nice stove that your wife even feels comfortable running the stove,,,, my hats off to Woodstock for building such a nice straight forward designed stove.......Charlie

This stove kicks the old slammer I grew up with right into the ground. Its so easy to operate and easy on the eyes too. My wife is still getting used to it but she lit a fire around 12 noon today and when I got home it was burning right along just fine so Id say she did a good job with just a little bit of advice over the phone from me. I just set mine up for the first overnight burn shes loaded full of some maple, hickory and oak pallet pieces stove top is climbing up to around 450 now air is set at 1 the cat is burning and the house is at a comfortable 75* its 40 outside and dropping. Man I love this stove!!:)

Can you imagine what you'd be missing if you bought some other brand of stove? It's almost like these stoves are too good to be true,,, being so user friendly,, even the cat can be removed with no tools,, flip the lid,,, lift out the cat , dust her off and set her back in,,,, even the wife could do that! I guess you can tell I'm still excited over my stove as well. Nice to buy something that turns out better then expected... Now I know why you can get your money back in 6 months,,, no one in their right mind would want their money back.;lol

We love ours. Its so easy that my stepson can tend to it and he can't even boil water on the gas stove!

I still have the pallet that mine came on. Not sure why.

I figured I really dont want to return it I havent burned the base yet Im going to throw it in the barn for at least six months but I really see no need to return it.

I kept mine in case I ever have to move the stove. Maybe if we sell the house. It is the nicest piece of furniture we have.

Matt, I'd be a little worried about running it overnight until you extend the hearth. Mine is sitting about 2" in, on a 13" raised hearth, and my wood floor in front of the hearth still gets quite warm.

I've hit 700 on the stovetop - I know I've got a good long fire in there if I get 600-650 on a cold night, thermometer right above the cat. HOWEVER my FV cat hood is cast so that may increase my temps a bit?

Did you ever think you would make a purchase that looked so good an yet performed even better ?
I am still amazed :)

Maybe you could cut that down a bit and put the rough edge towards the stove, just a thought. I glad you got that floor protection.

I thought about that but I really want to extend the hearth over the spring/summer Im going to try to at least but well see what happens. I was going to buy an 18" hearth extender but I found this for half the price it will work for this season. Also how would I cut it if I decide to its steel over mineral board Im not sure how to go about that without wrecking it.

Maybe tape along the line you want to cut and use an angle grinder with a cut off wheel, safety glasses and a dust mask.. Of course do it outside or in a garage.. You could also sandwich the pad with two strips of wood and use that as a cutting guide , thus keeping the edge from breaking out. At least you have floor protection .
