If you have used wood pellets.com before, do their prices vary much? It looks like the price per ton went up a bit over the past few months, but the delivery charge went down. Please let me know your experience with them.

Thanks
Steve

Prices for my area have remained relatively stable since the spring. That said, their prices have risen considerably each year. I think that geographical location has an impact.

You pay a premium for their customer service. You definitely do get premium customer service from them. However, I do not care for the brands that they make available in my area.

I live about 15 minutes from their home office and it's not worth it for me to order from them. I think their prices are way too high to consider even picking up pellets.

You need to buy pellets in the off season, when the demand is low. I don't care for their choice of pellets or prices but can see if you don't have a truck or the brawn to schlep them home, this would be a good solution.

I just checked for my area I'd have to take a 3 ton min. [ I don't have space for that much] and the brand I can get locally for less. Really doesn't work for me.

well, I compete locally with them, and cant say Ive heard alot bad about them, TBH. Many folks here (the forum) do buy from them as well....

as for the argument above that "their prices have risen considerably each year...." well, who's hasnt? its like saying gasoline is a ripoff because you cant buy it cheaper than you could last year.

Cant comment on their customer service either way....sorry.

Diesel costs are down a few cents these days... maybe thats why the delivery charge is down?

That said, i find them over-priced and have never ordered anything from them.

I've used them a few times and they're fine. They call every fall to check if I need pellets, usually with some sort of promotion. Always very friendly. But I usually order in Spring/Summer because, as others said, that's when prices tend to be lowest. Still, whenever I check their site, prices are usually in step with others in my area.

The only "complaint" I have is that they won't put the pellets in my garage (sometimes they'll push them in as far as they can... but I have to be home to oversee it). The people I used this year told me to mark off a spot in my garage where I wanted them. I did with chalk, and came home with no pallets to put away. That was nice, and I'd choose them over WoodPellets.com so long as the prices are relatively even.

Good point. To clarify, their increases seem to outpace the market. The first year that I purchased from them (as pellet sales.com), they were very competitive. They are now selling Cleanfires for more than Barefoots, Cubex, Vermonts, and many other good brands in my area. Off season savings were minimal for my area.

They do have some decent promotions for delivery pricing.

I like Wood Pellets.com. Awesome friendly folks. They delivered 8 ton this Spring for $75 bucks and pushed them right into my garage. No local service in the Albany area that I know of that will deliver this many tons for so little money. I think the Clean Fire hardwood pellets burn excellent in both my Harman Boiler and my Jamestown stove. I will continue to buy from them as long as they continue to provide this level of service.

Cool another Capital District Guy. Any other suggestions on where to get pellets?? Thanks :)

If you don't mind the drive and have a pickup, Vermont Pellet Company is right up the road just south of Rutland. Their pellets are all pine and burn very hot. A nice thing about picking them up their, right from the mill is that they haven't been beat to death by transportation so there are almost no fines in the bag. Nice people too. I have an Agway about 2000 ft down the road from my house and they have a great quality assortment but their delivery charges for 8 ton was the price of a ton of pellets! To be fair though, they will also deliver and put them where you ask, including the basement but I'm not that old yet that I need that kind of service. For your location, I would just ask around. All the big box stores have them though maybe not the best quality. Other than that, check your Agways, Hardware stores, etc. GL

This is the first year I have had pretty much little to no contact with them. Joy has called a couple of times to have me investigate some bad batches. A customer of mine ordered 7 tons then split up the order between three homes. Guess what? There was an issue with the batch...lots of tooth-pick-like wood shavings in the bag and it wasn't working very well with the Harman feed systems. To my knowledge all 7 tons were replaced, even carried out of basements and re-stacked. You may pay slightly more but a better question may be to ask WHO do you want to give your money to? $30 more? Consider it a tip and a thank you.

You cannot ask for friendlier more helpful people aside from whatever they are selling. You have to turn a profit to remain in business...you can only give it away for so long. I just checked their prices and I think its fair and inline with others.
