You ain't the only one.
I built her a whole friggin fireplace and I didn't get a DAMM THING in return......:(

Actually, I got the satisfaction of seeing her cry her eyes out with joy, when she saw that fireplace being built. That, my friend, was the best Christmas present I ever got!

That said, keep that lil' Echo for your clean-up saw, and get that 455 Rancher out of your head altogether. If you want a good Husky, get at LEAST a 372XP. The rancher series saws will dissappoint in the long run. That 372XP will have you grinning for HOURS after running it.......trust me.

Keep it and buy the bigger one that you wanted, everyone needs at least 2 saws, the wife won't mind, I do it all the time.

I would never buy my wife of over fifty years a major purchase unless we were in agreement as to exactly what it was to be. She would never make such a purchase for me.

You know what that's called oldogy? EXPERIENCE! ;)

My wife and I have an agreement that we do not have to discuss any purchase under $100, and that is a purchase we make for ourselves. Every big ticket item I have purchased for her, has been with her telling me exactly what she wants. Then again, we keep our money together, so I wasn't really buying anything for her, we were buying it for her together. lol

Maybe the only big ticket item that I bought for her was her engagement ring and wedding band, but she still picked them out. I was still able to surprise her by having the jeweler continue to tell her that it was not ready and then I proposed to her when she was utterly pissed with the jeweler for taking so long on the rings.

Ok, as the woman here, I've gotta chime in. I agree that you should just tell her you really like the saw but in the future, you go together and get it as a saw had to "feel right" in your hand and unless she knows the exact model/specs, she shouldn't try to surprise you, too many variables (like you trying to buy her a bra!)

If this is a dealer you go to, shame on them for not steering her in the right direction. My husband collects things we aren't allowed to talk about here. He frequents a few shops and I know I can go to either place around his birthday or the holidays and they EASILY spend my money for me and they have never been wrong. I don't know how your wife thinks but if you let her believe this is what you wanted, you may get more things in the future you don't want :)

All in all, you did well, a chainsaw, even if it isn't exactly what you wanted it is still a better gift than underwear ;)
