newbie looking to make leap to wood central heating

Good Morning,
Been researching for years and have not made the leap. researched all OWB not so impressed with OWB Gassers. Looking @ Garn very strongly currently.
Inside units look all very quality but need inside water storage for best operation from what I have read.
No room for inside storage. want unit outside or in out building.

I know most here have contemplated this same quandry before the great leap. So input would be greatly welcome.

Welcome. Putting an inside gasser with storage in an outbuilding is very practical. Some pix of a Froling with 1600 gal storage being installed in an outbuilding. The Froling heats a 6000 sq ft structure.

I was in the same situation as you I don't know how many months ago now and I finally ended up going with a Garn. I had an addition built on to the existing house to hold the Garn and installation of the Garn itself is still going on. I am by no means an expert like some in this forum but if you have any questions about the Garn and the install process, feel free to talk to me since I'm going through it now

Every piece of the system leaks energy so the more components inside the better so its leaking into the heated space. Impossible for me to get (2) 500 gal tanks inside our home. So I'll take a small efficiency hit with the boiler (and soon to be added storage) in my out building.....but man I am soooo far ahead in reduced energy costs. Not sure why you think storage tanks MUST be inside.... It's just better. Do you have radiant heat now? I think the garn is less happy with a forced air system. Garn guys will explain. Anyway, lots of folks have storage outside is my point.

If I didn't have a huge sig as it is, I'd put this as my quote from Tennman!

But to everything there is a compromise. When I design anything.........I try to come up with the ideal situation irreguardless of any constraints in the real situation. Then try to fit the ideal into the real situation making as few compromises as possible. So if this means putting some components or the whole Garn in it's own building then that building should be used for something else like a wood shed, or man cave as well Oh, and the mancave would have the Garn incorporated in it, not seperate from it. Just try to use the waste heat for something.

I like the Garn, but also most indoor gasser's don't need storage. It's more for convenience than anything. But a Garn is a nice set up.

Ah... Thx. But the last line in you sig's been warming hearts for over 2K years. I've only been messing with boilers for about 5. Whatcha got's much better. Now if I only knew how to do one of those winking faces.

I agree with the man cave idea! But reading the manual on the Garn it does not state that one can build what I have seen on the videos. I believe it shows that it should be a dedicated space for the boiler. I would assume this would match most codes as they would fall back to the manufacturer of product until they had case studies to prove otherwise. I would much prefer to have my storage in basement and heat source outside for obvious reasons. I originally gave up on in house storage but in a reevaluation i have come up with an area that is 4' by 13' by 7'6" high that i could put a tank in. now the catch is how do i fit it in the single entry door @ top of old bulkhead? The space I came up with could yield 2429 gallons by my math. So I am going to investigate the availability of tanks that i could fit through the door and maximize my storage. then i will have a cost for that portion if its reasonable. I may have more options than just a Garn and a dedicated building. The additional cost of storage for me maybe offset by the ongoing property taxes associated with a dedicated building for just the Garn.
