I think I need to get some warning stickers for my firewood

I have given wood to two different parties this year and both have had issues with fires being much hotter than they are used to. First was a neighbor that told me he had to readjust all the air settings on his burner (not sure if it was a insert or stove). Second was used in a fireplace and the glass blew out during the first full burn. Hard woods that are dry. There is no substitute.

Not only do you need warning warning stickers, you need to have them sign a release of liability! I can just see some one, even a friend, coming after you when their house burns to the ground. Seems no one wants to accept responsibility for their actions or lack knowledge.

Yep, day & night difference. But in the end, maybe they'll see the difference and start asking questions. And you can guide them accordingly.

For sure folks are accustomed to burning with lots of draft. Not needed if the wood is right.

From what I understand the glass doors of a fireplace should always be open with the mesh covering closed.

yeah for the most part they are just tempered glass so when they explode it won't be big razor shards.
Instead you get hundreds of tiny hot glass pellets all over the floor - or carpet from my buddies experience.

He woke in the middle of the night to exploding glass and spent the next few days attempting to pull them from the melted carpet fibers

I have a set of glass doors, with air controls built into the frame, that are ceramic glass like in wood stoves and inserts. They weigh a ton and are meant to be closedwhen burning. A friend of mine removed them from his fireplace when he converted it to gas and I installed them in our remaining fireplace down stairs. They work okay, but they ain't no wood stove or insert as most of the heat still goes up the "pipe." Sure are pretty though and they're better than getting up at 3am and falling down the dark stairs to close the damper! Thankfully we seldom use that fireplace.

Warning:

Flammable. Contains wood. Burning will result in fire.

Those forms are the best. I ran a baseball program for a few years, and when I would rally the troops to show up and volunteer their time, I was always asked to get everybody to sign those. "Hi, thanks for coming and giving up your Saturday to help make the fields nice for the kids. Now sign this.
