Early morning start with yarding some small logs out of a burn pile.

IMGP5395.JPG

The small rounds have to be split or they will not dry even when stored under well ventilated cover.

A long butt makes for variety in bucking and splitting, a 28" bar just makes it through this round .

Loaded up with half a cord. The highway home is not all that busy so nobody seems to mind that I only go 45 mph!

Taking the ferry to Alert Bay.

The ferry ride takes about 40 minutes.

Nice work Allan! Love the pics, the splitter, and your ride on the ferry. Very cool. We take a ferry ride about once a year to cross over into Vermont that takes about 20 minutes or so. It is a cool ride. The last time we were getting ready to get on a tractor trailer was pulling onto it before we were. !!! I didn't know if I wanted to get on it still. ;lol

love that skidder/splitter! and that you can do 4 at the time!!

That must be light wood to fill that toy that full and it not sagg.

The splitter is around 30 years old. Two brothers got tired of splitting by hand and made 24 of these machines and I count myself lucky to have one.
The wood is second growth Western Hemlock. The smaller logs which are tops, have been down for about a year and are not as heavy as the soggy long butts.
The Toy has a Goodyear air bag suspension inflated to 70 psi and the tires are 700-15 - 8 ply inflated to 60 psi. The wood splitter's only suspension is its tires which are inflated to about 7 psi, so the wood splitter limits your speed to about 45 -50 mph.
