We're supposed to get hit with the coldest weather in 2 years here.So I've decided to get out the big stuff,3 year old osage orange, top dressed with 10 year old air dried locust rounds, resting on a bed of 5 year old hickory so hard you can't pound a nail in it.I will post a pic of this blast of btu's this weekend before I load up the King.

Should burn well, I got out the mulberry.
Cut standing dead them split/stacked for a year.

Good Boyscout....came prepared. We're gettin' a chill here also, still burnin' Cherry, Hickory, and stretching the supply with some recently downed Ash that seems to burn well once it sits next to the stove for a couple of hours....the Ash is at 22% on a fresh split when I brought it in and placed it near the stove, not sure where it stands when it goes in, but lights right up.

Ahhhhhhh.... feelin' da heat!!

I tossed on a couple hedge rounds last night...actually more than a couple. Wasn't necessarily cold, but ya burns what ya gots.

These were about 18" long and 6" in diameter...standing dead for about 15 years (girdled), then cut and stacked for 2 years. They must have weighed about 20-30 lbs each and were only about 1/2 burned 13 hours later. Doesn't get any better than that.

Wow lukem. I finally scored a couple Hedge rounds last summer. Got about 12 decent sized splits. Will be burning them 2014

Getting cold here also. 4* with 20-30 mph winds first of the week. May even go below 0*. While not cold like our northern members get I'll get to stretch the stoves legs a little finally this year. Brought in a half face cord of locust, sugar maple, and walnut. Just because it is going to be too cold to step 5 feet outside the back door in my boxers to the wood rack with -10 to -20 wind chills.;em

I've definitely been using a large split of my ironwood reserve each night for the past few. Good to be prepared.

Drinking any wine with that heat OLA
This white oak I've had sitting around for a few years ran me out of the house............now what
Yeah it threw so little heat in that ancient smokedragon that you ran to the nearest motel to keep warm. I understand, time to join the ranks with the real woodburners and get a real stove.;lol

Don't care how long it burns... it's going into storage. Hemlock, soft maple.. and anything else that comes along in the pallet full.

Wife's doin the burning this week. I'm in Boston.. Dang cold here too! Houston tomorrow though.

I've got another 8 or so pallets of junk, mostly Irene hemlock. Then it's ash city for a while. Probably be warm by then!

Oak and locust are the only two kinds of wood I burn so no special wood but I did go out and bring in 5 square locust slabs I have been saving for cold nights and some carefully selected oak splits for Monday and Tuesday night so the surface moisture would be dried out of them.
