I just bought a ton of North American Pellets. Has anybody used these or have any feedback to quality?

You bought a ton w/o having done any test burning of them??

Too bad. They are just rebagged Currans from upstate NY. Barely a shoulder pellet, IMO. I had a friend give me about 30 bags....he didn't like them at all either, but thought my multi-fuel stove could handle them better. Lots of fines, and poor heat output. I had to crank the fuel feed way up to get any decent heat.

hi curve.as imacman suggested, you should always try a few bags before commiting to a ton.we have the same stove and they did not perform well for me.hope you get better results.why did you switch from the green team.you will see a noticable difference in heat between those two.

Do your research on here. You will get mixed reviews.
I am burning them right now in my Englander PDVC and they are very hot. For me they are very comparable to somersets, a little better than barefoots. Definetly a good pellet IMO
For me, better than Green team.

I bought 5 bags last week...

Not the best, not the worst. They burned clean for me (Quad always does and Fahrenheit self cleans every 10 hrs) but heat could have been better.

They smelled funny too??

Not a total loss. Just buy some quality pellets and blend them in. Make the good ones go farther.

I tried some last year and they did not burn very hot.
This year my parents stopped using the pellet basket in their wood stove and
I ran their leftovers of these pellets through my stove and they were clean and hot.
And I agree, they smell different, almost as if they have vasolene jelly in them or something.

They have these at Lowes but I did some research last year and I stayed away from them. More bad reviews than good.

IMHO if you have a decent stove that is not fussy (harman for example) ...this pellet is well worth the money. I have burned sumersets, vermonts as well as stove chow and O Malleys. the only difference I see is the amount of ash. BUT if you buy a decent stove (like a harman) this will make little difference in the operation of the stove. Bottom feed is nice for all pellets regardless of quality of the pellets...again IMHO

A bit of mis-information here. There are a lot of stoves (read that to mean "most all") that will burn the poor pellets.
The Englander that I have, that you most likely look down your nose at because it's not a HARMAN, will burn any pellet....wood, grass, and even coffee pellets.

What you're not saying, and most other posters on this thread and others are, is that they don't make good heat....and THAT is what we are looking for most of all.

Bottom line......I don't care about some extra ash IF the pellet gives good heat. The North Americans, by and large, give poor heat AND a lot of ash.

that was my experience with them.i have the exact same stove as curve.the vf55 is a m55 in a different wrapper.the fact that its a multi fueler with the agitator will help but i had to run it full bore to get decent heat.only time will tell and hopefully curve will post his results

I bought a couple tons of these when I first bought y stove. They burn ok in the M55, but nothing to rave about.

Burned fine in my beast. Heat was fair ash was fair. Smelled odd! Like imacman is all about the heat, With options that are the same nickle with more heat its a no brainer for me. I would pass on them. If that was all I had available? Sure I'd burn em. But I'd be real cranky knowing peeps are getting somersets for the same money!

Well, I have read a LOT of posts that state otherwise. I dont look down my nose at any good pellet stove that is not fussy. if your stove is not fussy and can still make good heat with a low $$$ pellet...great. I have seen many posts where people have to mix just to get rid of low quality pellets and a lot of complaints about ash and solids, and fines... ect from burning low grade pellets. with my stove I have had NO problems with any of those concerns. Plus I can tell NO real difference in heat output.. I chalk some of that to the fact that I have a boiler.

Man, Harman owners are an incredible group! They ARE a good stove but they are completely overrated. As for pellet boilers, check out an Okofen.

How did we get from pellets to Harman's?

Anyway. Of the free pellets I have been given or stole real cheap. All were from Harman owners. Was told they didn't burn well, Yet my second rate stove ate em like candy and never fussed once! Go figure?

Sure wish I lived close to the fella with the P43 and the Turmans. ==c

Edit: I take it back, Best score was a breckwell owner that said Okies where clinkering in his stove. CRS strikes again!

I've never seen a pellet my stove wouldn't burn and I've burned some bad ones. And like Imacman said, ash isn't an issue. Anyone who complains about ash should try a stove without an ash pan. But the whole argument about hot vs. not hot pellets are hard for a Harman owner to appreciate because the stove automatically compensates for it unlike fixed feed rate stoves. The difference is in the usage, and that would be very difficult to impossible to measure. The reason we're all on this forum is because we chose to burn pellets to save money. So people need to do whatever they think is necessary to accomplish that. I won't criticise anyone for the choices they make.

Mediocre heat and lots o ash. That's what I get too.

I actually bought 4 bags before I bought the ton. To tell you the truth...before I even put them in the hopper, I thought I was wasting my money on this test. Well, surprise to me, and maybe some of you, they burned as hot, or hotter than the Green Team I have been using since November. I haven't really noticed any smell, but there is more ash.
My personal opinion....and I am a novice here only burning pellets for the first time this year...a lot of it depends on what kind of stove you have, what settings are programmed, and if the stove has been set to the manufacturers Magnahelic recommendations. I have tried several other brands of pellets that have not been given very good ratings and still got plenty of heat out of them.

Curse, what stove are you using?
