The power company dropped 2 large red oaks at my daughters friend parents house and I got at least 1/2 cord today! There has to be at least 2 cords there. I was also offered what looks like another cord. Problem is my little 023 is too small for some of this wood and I have been having trouble with chain oiler not lubricating the chain. This score is less than 1/2 mile from my home and today I severely overloaded my old F-150!

Awesome score RB, maybe time for a rental saw. Buck it up and let someone else sharpen the chain.

I don't think you can rent a saw here in Mass... The oiler seems to be the problem which gets the chain hot and dulls the chain..

I will have to leave some LARGE oak pieces behind my saw can't handle them :( This $hit is heavy as hell! Starting to feel my age I will say that! I tip my hat to those who do this all the time! The homeowner loaded most of the wood into the truck for me and that was a HUGE help :)

You're kidding ? Not even from Home Depot? That stinks. Believe me I know how heavy that oak can be. I've taken the Fiskars on site just to halve or quarter up the biggest rounds just to save the back.

Yes I can agree that stuff is heavy. Green oak will overload a truck in a hurry.

Absolutely! I drove very slowly and there were no other cars in that short distance :) No problem and the 4.2 V6 didn't complain at all.. Probably close to a ton in the truck lol..

I have the same truck, have overloaded it a few times as well. That 4.2 does great moving it I just worry about stopping with that weight.

Yes I was driving very slow and only a short distance and saw no cars on the road in that short distance.. Does OK for a 16 yr. old truck..

I would do my best to beg, borrow, rent a saw and get a couple wedges and a sledge from the same source to break the big stuff into smaller pieces. That is primo wood, close to home, easy access and well worth the effort IMO.

Good luck with that bugger.

Oh, and only buck and section as much as you can hold in the truck. Wood hounds are much less likely to poach it if it is not bucked and waiting for them!!

Yes it is easy to access including the wood in the back of the property.. Just drive right up! There is a large stack of oak already cut to length too.. Looks like it's been there a few years but not split.. My 27 year old daughter just sent me a FB message and wants to come help me next weekend.. She loves hauling wood lol and she weighs around 100 lbs..

Nice score Ray, if I was close you could use one of my bigger saws.

Very nice score.

My dad's 1995 F150 with the 302 in it has hauled many a load of wood, and that is also the reason I bought the F350. Seen that poor F150 squating way too low. My dad's McCulluch cut a lot of wood too. That is the reason I bought the Stihl 261 and 660. Heard the McCulluch screaming away on way too many big trees.

Had access to a 36" white oak a couple weeks ago that was already bucked up for the most part, and it was nice to stack the wood as high as possible in my truck without seeing it squat. Had to worry about how much we put in the F150. If we had the trailer with us, I would have loaded that up too and towed it with my truck.

With that said, the F150, McCullochs, and Home Depot bargain basement splitter have been responsible for a lot of cut, split, and hauled wood, and I mean a lot.

Nice, white oak is even better! I rarely use the F150 in fact my kids use it more than me. I rarely haul wood so an F350 won't happen here but they have lots more suspension for sure..

Ray

Nice, and +1 on the heaviness of that wood. Here's hoping you get that oiling situation sorted, you probably want to get that wood on it's way back to your pile.

Nice score. We was cutting a red oak tree(one of many) that sandy took down yesterday. My dad cut and I split. I split everything in the woods by hand to avoid the mess in my yard. That stuff split like butter but it was the heaviest wood I have ever had to pickup. We had to use the wheelbarrow to get half the load off the truck so the truck wouldn't sink down in the yard. Stacked in the sun so hopefully it will be ready for the 2014-2015 burning season

I have heard white oak is better but I find it hard if not impossible to split:mad:

You can. Taylor rental will rent Stihls for about 50 bucks a day.

Oh man that stuff looks good. Most looks like it'll split easy, too. Ray, I would have to figure out some way to get that stuff...

Will they let you drag a "Dennis dray" down the road behind your truck? ==c

Ray, if I was closer I'd give ya a hand.....you could buy lunch!

I'd bring up my stable of big saws, pick up Zap on the way up, and we'd be able to build you a damm shed out of that lumber!;)

Try and get as much as you can, might pay to look on craigslist for a nice, used 70cc class saw, and move it up a notch! Scores like that are worth the investment!

LOL I think I will just let someone else take the large stuff.. I can live without it and they might need this for $$ reasons.. Buying wood CSD is MUCH easier for sure!

Yes and there is lots more there and all red oak.. They also dropped a huge white pine but I don't want it.. I'd guess the white pine is 30" diameter..

I'd be taking that pine for lumber to use on my woodshed project. I just hauled 3 30" logs to my buddys mill this afternoon......we're gonna have a 'lumber day' sometime in March or April.

That Pine is great for getting a hot fire going in a hurry if you're starting a cold stove. In my wood thread, you can see some Spruce in the background. I'm grabbing that for outdoor fires and to try it out as kindling.

F350 was purchased for a lot more reasons than just hauling wood.
