You are coming home from buying milk at the convenience store, see a tractor trailer full of logs, and hope that it is stopping at your house to drop them off. Only to realize while driving through the intersection the truck is stopped at, that all the wood is poplar and sweet gum and you really do not want that stuff.

Don't know what is worse. Hoping for a tractor trailer load of locust or oak, or knowing from 20 yards away what the species of trees are.

Fake an illness and call out sick so that you can pick up a craigslist score to coincide when the people posting are available. I recently called out sick to go pick up some Oak from a guy who was only home on Wednesdays.

I have my own legal/CPA practice. Don't really think I need to call out sick to take a day off during the week. Usually, that is how I approach Craigslist firewood. I will take a day during the week to go get a Craigslist score and they will usually save the rest of the wood for me so I can come back on a weekend and get it. Now though, I am starting to get pretty busy with tax season here, so cutting, splitting, and stacking might have to wait until after April 15th. Painful too since I am seeing a lot of nice stuff on Craigslist.

Well i have been with the company for 10.5 years and have lost many days due to carryover limitations and being salaried. I am taking tomorrow and Wednesday off just to offset the 35 extra hours i worked last week, life of IT person. Ill split and stack tomorrow and wednesday. Weather will be perfect, a balmy 10 degrees.

Yeah, my wife goes through that with her employer. She does not have sick leave per se, but she can only bank a certain amount of annual and personal leave and then she starts to lose it. So, she takes off what she needs to not to lose her leave. I was salaried at the firm I was working for and I HATED it. Worked a couple of times unilt midnight or later and did not even get so much as a thank you from the partner I was working for. In fact, got a tongue lashing because I did not come in one weekend to work while the partner was on vacation in Arizona. That and sending work to me while I was home sick with pneumonia were the straws that broke the camel's back. I like being my own boss even if the paycheck is not entirely steady.

Yes sir, I worked IT for law firms in NYC and I saw how it can really be. Didnt like the law firm culture in this city.
I have enough days to gather cords and cords of wood on CL, I try to take one to 2 days a month off plus the regular vacations that are allowed throughout the year. A bad day of splitting and stacking is better than a good day at the office. Ill make that a motto and get it engraved on my tool shed. lol.
