Snow that squeaks!

Yup! The colder it gets, the louder it squeaks!
I just came in from outside (for a few minutes) and the snow is just singing tonight!! As we I type this, the temp here is -26f. Then, you can factor in the wind..T V says that wind chills will approach -40 tonight, but I think we are past that now.

Yep, tad cold here too. Used to love that squeaky snow when I plowed. That meant great traction & light snow. You could drive on it just like pavement. 4* outside with a - 15 -20* windchill here. 74* inside, so I'm almost not minding the weather. A C

For sure it is squeaky snow time. Hoping for icicles soon though. Used to love winter but not so much any more.

Sounds like you really have some super cold up there yooperdave. How much snow have you got? Still getting lake effect today?

Well, we have +1 with a -18 windchill and it's 73 in the house after my 5pm load (it's almost 10pm now).

I am currently burning down hickory coals in prep for another load later tonight. Furnace is primed and on standby, set at 64.

Toot sweet it's cold out there! Funny though once it gets down to -10 or -30 real temp it all feels the same...........

I think the most interesting thing about minus zero temps is when you get into you car - nothing "gives". It's interesting when the car's foam rubber seats are frozen stiff.

Hmmm . . . "interesting" is not the word I would have used to describe the feeling of plunking down on to a hard, cold slab with little to no give. I suppose it's also "interesting" when the garage door will not open all the way or "interesting" when you start out and it feels as though the tires aren't perfectly round. Gotta love the weather . . . personally I'm just counting down to a few more weeks at which point I can dig out the Speedos (well . . . if I had Speedos.)

Savage-yes, the lake effect snow machine is still at work although the amounts are not what the used to be in years past. Honestly, probably only a bit over a foot of standing snow on the ground now where it has been undisturbed and had a chance to settle. The extended forcast (7-day) shows snow everyday...

Shari- I know just what you are talking about when you mention the car seats being just solid! Kinda like sitting on a log...also true about getting to a certain temp below zero, than it all feels the same anyway. But just when you have a few days of -30 or more, a day of -10 to 0 can feel like a heat wave!

FFJake- I'm glad that my garage doors aren't the only ones that need an 'assist' to open during the cold. As far as the speedos go, its been a few years (decades) since those!!

The temp this morning was a cool -32f. It was the second day of no school around this area. "Miss K" would definetly had her time off from teaching, but wouldn't have enjoyed it well enough!

Going home on lunch break to add a few splits to keep the house warm. Brrr!

Years ago (many yrs. ago) I used to snowmobile race. Dad had a franchise and I'm pretty sure I was used as advertising. We'd wait in great anticipation for cold weather like this to freeze up a local river. When temps got a little warmer we'd go zipping up/down the river - under bridges, around horseshoe bends in the river, etc.

Yes, I had a helmet on. Yes I had goggles on. Dang! Frostbite got me just above and below the goggles. Considering that happened so many moons ago I still feel the cold in those spots first. Especially that area above the goggles below the helmet. Our kids still tease me that in the winter I pull my stocking cap way down over my forehead. I suppose it is kinda dorky looking but at least no 'cold pain'.

When the grandkids are here in the winter & I dress them to send them outside to play on a cold day they all have neck scarves and I pull their knit hats way down onto their foreheads - this surely makes us look like 'family'.

There is NOTHING like being a little too slow getting them undressed for the bathroom.
