this is the material that i used.this material presses against the tubes. what youre looking at is the stuff that controls the secondary air that comes into you stove. 2013-01-23_14-45-17_411.jpg

jags you helped me way back when. you helped me crawl now im running. im glad i got a stove that needed repair cause i know all the workings of our stove . i dug deep into the workings of it. it was 1 degree last night my house was 86 lol

well i went through the same thing youre going through . Not one person could tell me what the tabs were made out of . i tried flat gasket material....didnt work. So upon further diassembling the of stove i found there is a flat material with gold like flecks in it used as a gasket on the seconday air control (the two tubes in the back of the stove when you look in the center of the tubes you see there is a gasket that covers the holes to stop air from feeding the fire when the secondary lever is pulled towards you) i had my dealer order the gasket material and cut 8 pieces out that would fit under the tabs. they are flat and can withstand the heat of the firebox.

What was the issue with the flat gasket material--why didn't it work? Do you know how much they want for the secondary air control gasket?

I will look again when I get home, but I don't believe that my stove ever had those pads. Of course, mine dates back to before the current Quad owners. Did they make any changes? Dunno.

My isle royale seems to have the pieces of felt between the tabs and the glass. Manufactured 6/12

I remember. Nonpro and I have had some similar talks when he was considering the stove.

Nonpro - I am betting with the newly tightened screws you will be just fine. (but I am still gonna look for any signs of those pads.)

Mine was installed in 2002. Predates yours by a bit.;lol

the issue was the person before me used to pull the handle too hard to close it and cut the gasket so there wasnt a perfect seal to stop the secondary air from coming into the firebox.

Chrism - just to clarify - you mean the start up air, not the secondary air, correct? The secondary would be the air going to the reburn tubes.

yes jags used it but so much easier to post a pic when u use a tablet instead of a desktop

yes im sorry my mistake thinking too far ahead of myself ......yes start up air.

and no i dont remember the price it was only a couple of dollars it was cheap and they even threw the silicone and new screws

I've been on hold for 45 mins with Quadrafire customer service........

go through your dealer let him be on hold. the num i have is 1-800-926-4356 always worked good for me .

Well, according to Quadrafire CS, the pads for the glass clips do not exist.......they also said they didn't have a part number for the startup air gasket that chrism is talking about......sigh.

That gasket looks like a break-down waiting to happen. I wonder if my QF has similar setup. (The stove side is the same.)
When new, it always felt difficult and strange to use the startup air. Hard to pull on, hard to push off. Then after a couple years, it just smoothed out and worked. Mine's an insert so would have to pull it out to get a look, and that aint happening unless absolutely necessary.

(Sorry if I semi hijacked....carry on.)

its only a breakdown if you close it (pull it towards you) too hard

If the shut off for your start up air is not working correctly, it will be evident. You will get a jet roar from the stove.

NonPro - hit up your dealer. There is literally a part number for every screw on that thing.

Edit: looks like I need to eat my hat. The break down manual does not have a number for that. Still, hit up your dealer.

Local stove shop has "glass gasket" which is woven and about 1/2" wide.....Chrism is that what you had tried? Why didn't the flat gasket material work?

Great pics, Chrism. Interesting stuff too see it without taking my own stove apart.
