That is bad news, I haven't used it in 2 years. It was 14 below this morning and hasn't got above minus 6 all day. We are nice and toasty with 2 stoves. It took 3 years before I was completely weened off of oil.

We had -4 F in Maine this AM with a stiff NW wind. The oil furnace kicked on about 5 AM so I bumped the Quad up to high, then we had a power failure for an hour from a tree on wires and the main house dropped to 60 F before the power came back on. Good to have a wood stove as back up, but this just confirms that I need to suck it up and get a gennie !! Looks to be even colder tonight.

I've managed to not have to for the 2 years I have used the PF100. It was -3 here last night and got up to about 5 during the day. Looks like a 2 bag day today. Beats the Dino Juice any day!::-)

Nope. Two pellet stoves. No need to burn the expensive stuff!

.....i do cheat and run the heat when i know the boiler is on and satisfied the hot water. so its already hot and running

Ditto. I have an Intellidyne heat saver unit mounted on my burner, so it doesn't come on that much....just runs the circulator and pulls excess heat from the boiler....that's usually enough to heat the water and not run the burner very often.

No. Was 4F here at 6 a.m. my pellet stove is more than enough for my 1400 sq ft home.

It's been -20 to -30 with the wind chills all week. Minus reg temp. The stove is struggling on level 3 (medium) while we are at workso the furnace has kicked on some. On level 4 it does a pretty good job of keeping up, but we can't run it on 4 when we are at work or it would run out of pellets by the time we get home 12 hours later.

I might have to look into having a friend make a hopper extension.

Only for hot water. The p61 is holding her own. This is my first full season with it and I love it.

How do you like your castile? There is someone around me trying to sell a new one for 2100, but the BTU capacity seems low to me. However, since you are in Maine, I'm sure you have a real idea as to how it handles the cold.

not me, still running pellets and cordwood in Hyde Park, -1::F here today!

yup, had to run it. couldn't get over 63 with the stove. Brought the house up to about 68 then shut th eoil hog down and then the stove was able to maintain it the rest of the night.

Yep, ran mine. All these people who haven't ran theirs in years could be in for a shock if they ever need to use theirs for one reason or another...

run the JUICE when its really cold but I live on Long island so its not that often. I still use the boiler for hot water so i know in a pinch that it will work. I hope everyone that is using there pellet stoves that they at least run there boilers once a month to make sure everything is in working order incase of an emergency and you need the back up heat

Parts of my house is borderline on the amount of baseboard, there are times when running the oil boiler can be needed to get enouhg heat inot the house. I normally run setback thermostats but in this cold snap the lower temps from my storage really limits the amount of temperature rise I can get. That said, knock on wood, I havent had to run it so far.

Wow a bag of pellets in 12 hours on setting 4 !!!, what a pellet pig, maybe you should join the pellet pig club:cool:

Still using the juice for the hot water and my furnace is still being used just doesn't run as long with the pellet stove running constantly.
Oil bills are defianty going to be down on the next fill up.

I ran out of pellets overnight last night and came downstairs to the temp of 58. Not a big deal for me, but I have to make sure things are toasty when the Queen gets up. So I ran the oil baseboard to get the downstairs to 62, then let the stove take it the rest of the way to 68.

I don't mind burning a little bit of oil from a cold start, esp. since I'm also running oil for my hot water.
