Hey all-just got a hot tip from a buddy who hunts a local state park. Apparently as a result of the storm damage in many parks across the state, the Division of Parks and Forestry has expanded the "Homeowner Firewood Program" temporarily in order to clear the blowdowns, etc... The program used to only be offered in parks at the extreme ends of the state (Stokes in the north and Bass River in the south), so I never took advantage of it because the round trip cost of gas would negate the savings on the wood. Now two parks that are practically in my backyard are offering permits-$25 a cord. Just bring a truck and a saw and the rangers direct you where to cut. I just called and will be heading out there either this weekend or next.

Is Allaire one of them?

I don't know, but you should call the park office and ask. They'll be glad to help. I live between Round Valley Reservoir and Spruce Run Reservoir and they are both offering permits.

Wow. It's all over the park sites. Though the main site is lacking: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/forest/njfs_firewood_prog.html

The Homeowners Firewood Program has been expanded to include areas that have sustained tree damage from Hurricane Sandy. Areas participating in the program are: Allaire, Bass River, Cheesequake, Hacklebarney, Hopatcong, Kittatinny, Monmouth, Parvin, Ringwood, Round Valley, Spruce Run, Stephens, Swartswood, Voorhees and Washington Crossing. Please visit their individual Web page for additional information.

A big dziękuję or Thank You. Parvins is around the corner for me. I will have to check them out to see if they still have trees>firewood available.
