It might be dangerous to run the stove with broken glass. My stove manufacturer forbids it.

Ya I wouldn't do that. You could end of with bigger issues then a broken piece of glass, like your living space becoming a fire box_g.

It would cost $19.31 to ship a 4.5 X 4.5 $28 piece of glass if I ordered a replacement piece from them ~ WHAT A RIP OFF!

But how much to buy it locally? It might still be a good deal, even with the shipping.

$30 at Portland Glass

A no-brainer, then, if it's local. If not, the $7 difference (less if you figure in tax) isn't bad, especially if you figure in time and gas to go get it. That would be offset a bit by perhaps getting the stove running sooner.

My local glass guy has ceramic glass (cerram glass?) and did a 17x20 for about $40 bucks. It may not be code legal but high temp aluminum tape held my cracked glass just fine for a day till I had the replacement glass. Not saying to do it, just sayin'

Door glass cracked on my avalon arbor. Anything I can seal the crack with while trying to round up new glass?

Did something hit the glass to make it crack? I've often wondered how common it is to have a catastrophic failure of the glass, like a total shattering that would allow the fire to spill out. I'm hoping that shatter resistance is inherent in ceramic glass.
