Green Supreme/NEWP: Not Bad

Not breaking news or anything, but my wife and and father in law brought home some Green Supremes from HD. Considering some reviews I've read over the last year or so I was a little concerned. I can report they aren't really that bad. Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming they're great or anything but for like $4/bag they're not bad(premium pellet prices are outrageous here). I did have to increase the feed rate a little, so a bag doesn't go quite as far.

I put them in the hopper, they burn, my basement gets warm. Works for me.

I prefer a nice softwood or the green Liganetics I had been burning, but GS/NEWP are nowhere near as bad as the few bags of infernos I burnt last winter. They're a bit on the ashy side but I clean often anyway. One thing they have in common w/ Infernos is the size of the saw dust. With more premium pellets the dust seems finer where the cheaper pellets are almost like chunks of wood glued together. So they are less dense, by mass and I'm also assuming energy content.

My Classic Bay has burned EVERY pellet equally.

Only difference is heat (ash too, but it gets thrown outside the pot, so No worries)

I burned some Green Supremes last year. Burned pretty clean (compared to some) but not a lot of heat..

Nothing burns like a Quad!

I burned through a ton of them already this year the ash is a little high but not a problem for me i clean my stove every sunday I paid 185 for the ton. I was burning a bag a day when it is in the 30 and when it dropped to 9 degrees went up to 2 bags a day and kept my house at 72 degrees Beats paying 7 dollars for the super premium pellets

Do you "Scrape" the pot everyday? Or do you really go a whole week without touching the pot?

I am looking at getting a Harman?? Most scrape the ashes daily (what I read?) ?

This wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I can go over a week without touching the Quad (just fill Hopper).

I usually scrape the pot once a day but thats because I dont like to look at the ash in the pot But i have let it just burn for a week straight running 24 hours a day then clean on sunday you have some caked on crud but it scrapes right off I dont think I lose any heat or any performance. But even if I do its not major If I can burn 1 bag a day and keep the house in the 70 I am happy and the wife is happy. The top of the glass after about 5 days get a little black but still nothing major. Not enough to spend 7 bucks for a bag of better pellets

I've never burned any batch of NEWP product that didn't burn nicely but what's left behind is a joke. For $200/T that's acceptable. Around here(not BB stores), they're $250+ a ton!....in and around the town they're manufactured in! I laugh when I see posts of NEWP and their off-shoots being sold in the $200 range, 100's of miles away from either plant.

I scrape my pot every 3 or 4 days. No need for every day. Let it burn.

Uhhh why not? You got your fingers in the hopper playin with your pellets most of the day.

Sure you don't want to step over to the darkside? That M55 will do that burnpot thing for ya. More time to fondle your pellet even!

I second JT's comment on the M55; burn GS & Agway- clean stove once a week- GS& Agway only pellets I burned so far, Agway burns a little cleaner.
Got the GS @ Lowes for $ 3.40 a bag

I normally go once a week. Was buzy and lazy last fall. I went from October 1st to Thanksgiving weekend. No touch or open the door except filling hopper(touching my pellets). 40 plus bags and 20 odd of them were GS. Ash pan was only 1/2 full. I shoulda took pictures!

Been doing the once a week ever since to keep the effiency up. Not because I have too. Just because the Mrs. and cold don't mix!

Same here. It depends on how busy I am, but I've left it for a week or so with no ill effects. I do a fairly deep clean once a week including the glass. It seems like my stove burns exactly the same regardless of how much ash is in the burn pot, but I don't think I've gone more than a week. I can't speak to Quad vs Harman other than I see a lot of happy owners of both brands here. The quality of the local dealer is an important consideration though.

I agree, but not bad and cheap is preferable to amazing and unaffordable in my book...

I scrape my pot once a week - the same time I clean it.

Of course I burn the best pellets I can buy too, which means I have less ash, clinkers, and other crap to worry about.
